BMW to put M badge on M Packages

Source: "AUTOBLOG"
Frankly, its never been all that difficult to turn a run of the mill BMW into a reasonable facsimile of an M model like an M3, M5 or M6. All you had to do was order the appropriate body kit from your friendly neighborhood BMW dealer and slap it on your car. In spite of this, Europeans have generally had an even easier time thanks to M-Sport packages on virtually every model in the lineup including those that didn't offer M equivalents. The M-Sport packages generally consist of assorted aero bits, wheels, upgraded seats and interior bits emblazoned with the "M" badge.

BMW is reportedly getting ready to offer M-Sport packages in the U.S. for the first time beginning in early 2009. The 1 and 5 series will apparently be the first models to get blessed. Given the slow down in sales and BMW's recent profit warnings, this should come as no surprise as the packages will surely be priced with a generous profit margin built in.

They are probably doing the same thing Audi did with the "S-line" packaage for those car owners that don't actually drive an "S" car.

Maybe they are just referring to the stuff that all of us enthusiasts have already been doing for years here in the states: by putting the euro M parts on our cars, like the M steering wheel, shift knobs, pedals, body parts, wheels etc. If that is the case, than this isnt really much news.

I though you were saying that they are putting an "M" badge on the trunk!

Also, a bit of insider info here, but the BMW Performance line, will soon be re-launched as the BMW M Performance division so i would expect to see alot more of the M badge showing up in the states very soon

if the M badge will only be found in the interior, on bits like the steering wheel, seats, and pedals, then that's fine.

if it's going to be put on the trunk, then that's a big problem

That makes sense...I don't know why non-M owners would like to put an M badge on their cars...I personally wouldn't do it on my car.

Anyways...is interesting they are slowly trying to bring more options to the states.

I wish E90post was as interested as getting M badges off non-M cars to cars with fake rims.

Bad rumor. ZMP, like the Euro M-sport package, does not put ///M badges on the exterior, just the tiny markers on the M-sport parts like we always have had.

from what I've gathered out of the dealer press release info.....the only ///M branded parts will be the steering wheel, and door sills. Slight possibility that the rims will have M decals as well.

But I'll make sure to have an M335iM.

These M packages has been available in Canada for many years. They're usually advertised as limited time offer and they're not available year around. Due to the fact that no one is really interested in the M packages, they're usually discounted quite a bit.

BMW has been putting M badges on cars with M trim bits for years. Nothing new and it's just a badge, made by man, with a story created by marketing. Sorry there are no santa claus.
