Msport wheel cosmetic changes?
A bit over a month ago I was on the US BMW site fiddling with the build options and noticed that a small part of the Msport steering wheel looks changed.
It looks like they removed the metal trim around the thumb controls. The new picts show no metal trim piece. Anyone else notice this, and does anyone know why? Is there anyone who here who recently picked up a new Msport, and can you post if you do or don't have metal trim around the center buttons, the ones that look like little barrels. |

M Sport steering wheel trim
I just checked my mid-October built car and the wheel does have metal trim around the barrels.

I think the build-your-own photos on the BMW US site shade the chrome surround in the frontal view. Switch to the side view and you can see the chrome peeking out up on top.

But, if you use the 360 view, clearly is does not show the trim piece. You can even zoom in to see it closer that it's not there. It's odd that BMW doesn't show the trim piece in the 360 view, normal or zoomed in, but if you select steering wheel/dash view mode the trim is there. Very odd. On my laptop when using google chrome the bmw website doesn't offer the head on dash view, selected by pressing the "steering wheel" icon. With chrome that icon is not there. With Firefox all views/icons, 360, side, steering wheel are shown and available.. |

My 10/30 build has the chrome trim. If you look at the website, you can see somebody clearly copied and pasted the steering wheel buttons from the other trim lines. And did a very bad job of it at that.

Poster eljefe87 also sees what I'm seeing. Can't grab the 360 photo file, so I took a picture of the 360 view. The same image shows in Firefox and chrome and IE. The first photo shows the wheel as it is, that's what my wheel looks like. Second pic is the side view. Oddly you can clearly see the trim piece on the right side. But, you can't see it on the left side, clearly it's not there. Now look at the 3rd pic. Clearly the trim piece is not there on both sides. But, if you look close you see a remnant of the trim piece on the inner part of the left side. Maybe someone at BMW is just playing around. Since it's inconsistent, and looks like someone is playing around, I'm sure the wheel is the same. Last edited by RPM90; 12-09-2012 at 12:44 AM.. |
