What design team? They just changed the lights and added some lines on the hood and sides and called it a day. Old gen looked better.
I always thought the old one was bland as well

Well it sold like hotcakes for Audi and was one of the cars along with the R8 that put Audi in the spotlight. As much as most BMW guys dislike Audi so called bland design I think the last Gen A5/S5 had wonderful smooth yet muscular lines which is different than the BMW dynamic muscular lines. I see the beauty in both that is why I go back and forth from BMW and Audi. BMW is more dynamic while Audi is more elegantly muscular is how I see it.

I prefer the 4 Series forever, but Audi is doing something good from the inside!
I remember the first time I saw the the first A4, it was awesome, I eventually ended up buying a used one in 1997. The car handled really well, a lot of fun to drive. I had the V6 with a manual and it was good times! I liked all the lines and there was something about the proportions, everything just seemed to be in perfect balance.

I felt the same way about the design of the original A7, but it was too big for me, and I have not cared for the way Audis have driven for a while.

This new version just looks like a A7 got busy with a Passat, while it is not bad, on the outside, I hate the chrome trim piece at the top of the door / fender, overall it is kind of uninspiring. The contour line above the rocker panel reminds me of a Honda Accord, which I think is not a bad looking car, but I would expect more from Audi.

The interior design is nice, except for a couple of awkward bits, the speaker grilles look kind of low rent, and the transition between the center console and dash is awkward, the start / stop button looks like an afterthought.

If this is Audi's move, it sets BMW up for an easy home run for the G20.

B.

Yes, BMW does it as well.

That said, it seems better integrated than the rest - where it actually looks like a damned tablet stuck on the dash.

Custom mount:

Mercedes:

Audi:

BMW:

Even though it sticks out, the shape and placement and dash contours around it, does not immediately get you to think of a tablet.

See what I mean?

Not sure what the point of this topic is...doubtful any of us real BMW enthusiasts care what Audi does or doesn't do well, and not likely to run off and buy one. I lost all respect for VW/Audi/Porsche after the TDI scandal, and feel bad for Porsche being part of that corporation.

Every recent Audi I've driven, including an RS5, was unimpressive to me. More like an overpriced VW than anything else - felt too heavy, likely as a result of the Quattro AWD running gear.

I thought it was a facelift model... obvious that Audi are frightened is pissing off their previous A5 customers, and so have now bored them to death with a design that is so similar that they may as well have not bothered.

The interior is the usual fussy but well assembled Audi fair... good but I don't think Mercedes will even notice this design. BMW need to up their game on the interior anyway, so they are already behind, albeit the LCI will fix some of the obvious quality issues with the current design.

A5 vs 4 Series:

No official engine information, but based on the A4/S4:
2.0T with 258 hp /278 lb-ft
3.0T V6 with 333hp /325 lb-ft

What do u think?

Just be aware that Audi likes to 'wow' some people with their interiors. To pay for the more upscale looking interiors, they cheapen other features that most people would ignore when they are in a showroom. For example, the Audi rear turn signals do double duty as brake lights !!! It's really true !!! Next time you follow an Audi to an intersection and the car brakes and turns, you will notice that one brake light light transforms into a turn signal. This is a major cost saver for Audi, Ford, Chevy, etc.

This arrangement makes for a much cheaper and less effective light cluster !

Just to compare...Audi A5 is playing against the 4 Series, I didn't lose my respect for Audi or Porsche though

For me, R8, RS6 and RS3 the best cars I got to drive from Audi

i would think Open minded BMW enthusiasts are interested in all competition. To say that the RS5 isnt impressive is a bit much ...overpriced VW? So M3 is like overpriced 328 i guess? hilarious

I understand the tablet thing but really think BMW loses dash/console fight. Center console is all mixed up/doesnt flow IMO. Love the Merc pic and not a fan of the Audi speedo/tach .
