F30 328i Stage 2: Tune + DP

Did our first downpipe on an N20/N26 car yesterday... coupled with the N20 JB4 and Evolution Racewerks Catless DP.
All up ~$1,600 installed

The car has the following modifications:
- JB4
- Evolution Racewerks Downpipe
- M Performance Exhaust

Power shown below is 'at the wheels'. It's approximately 15% less than the brochure 'flywheel power'
Stock: 155kw
Stage 1: 172kw (gain of 17kw or 11%)
Stage 2: 185 kw (further gain of 13kw or 7.5% on stage 1 and 30kw and 20% up on a stock car)

Estimate of the flywheel power is 220kw and 435nm

In addition to the downpipe providing more power the M performance exhaust sounds even more meaty now

Dyno shows stock, stage 1 and stage 2. Good to see power gains everywhere not just peak so it's definitely noticeable in everyday driving from the get go.

Stu, are you selling the kits to go from S1 --> S2 ? or just the S2 unit themselves?

Thats amazing ( 335i territory), only recently found these forums, just wondering how much for the m performance exhaust with installation for a 328i sportline.

Yep definitely nipping on the heels of an F30 335i - we've dyno'd a stock 335i F30 and it was low to mid 180s, if I can remember the rego of the car I will overlay the two graphs should be interesting

M Perf exhaust: http://www.bmraw.com/m-performance-e...-328i-bmw-f30/
Install $80.

Good post, Stu. 15% drivetrain loss sounds about right.

If I'm not too far off the mark, someone looking to do this is going to pay about $100/kW of extra power (once you add it some labour costs to install the parts). With the balance a 328i has the extra grunt would make it an even more enjoyable car than it is if you had some quiet country roads to explore!

Feel free to order here

This one wasn't ceramic coated, just the standard brushed finish. It's not a necessity to be honest.

What did you have to do to stop the car from detecting it no longer had a cat, and will the dealer be able to tell you did it? I want to know before I go down that path.

I know you're doing an A/B comparison, which is the only reason to dyno IMHO, but your dyno is reading at least 20kw low. A MKVI GTI with a stage 1 flash tune puts down an easy 180kw at the wheels (mine did, stock 150kw and tuned 185kw) and I know for a fact that a stock 328i is faster from a standing start and from a slow roll than a stock GTI and only slightly quicker than a stage 1 GTI, depending on launches etc. A BMS/JB4 328i absolutely destroys the GTI though.

There are many stock 328is that have dynoed at close to 180kw atw. There is no way an optimally functioning, topped up with 98RON 328i is making 155kw atw. My butt dyno said the car was underrated or making 180kw atw when I test drove it and I will bet a testicle that it's knocking on 200kw's door at the crank, stock. Tuned is somewhere between 200-220 atw for sure. I haven't put my 328i on the same dyno as the GTI so I have no objective data, but the thing has eaten other cars for breakfast that it should have been left in the dust by.

On the plus side, your improvements in power and torque are absolutely spot on where they should be, so we know the product works. A definite result!

But it is illegal to remove the catalytic converter. Of course, you have to be caught without one, but the chances are there. In addition, if your insurance company finds out.......

Still, removing the OEM catted pipe and replacing with a catless down pipe will give a decent performance boost to the car at a fair price.

This is a good point. The rest of your post contradicts this leaving me confused.

If someone else has dyno'd a stock 328i in Aus on another dyno I'd be keen to hear/see results. There was someone else on here that dyno'd around 155 and used a superchips tune or something to get to low 170s.

Not sure what I said that was confusing or contradictory. You accepted your results as indicative of what a stock car is putting down. I'm suggesting to you that your result is an outlier compared to all the other people around the world who have dynoed a 328i. It doesn't mean you're somehow doing the wrong thing, so please don't feel attacked, you just have a systematic error which means your dyno still yielded valuable data on whether the BMS unit worked or not, for which we can all be thankful.

Not taking it personally... I just don't think the results are outliers especially as someone else dyno'd on here stock at a similar figure.
