Did they install the intake silencer as well? Does it sound any different?

Yep, the NZD$303 was for full install, engine cover, intake silencer and coding. Haven't noticed too much difference in sound yet -- my car already has the M Performance exhaust. There is additional exhaust over-run which sounds nice. Subtle, but nice!

OK, so a further update to Aust pricing of the MPPK. So far I have sent four (basically identical) emails to four different dealers, including my VIN details for consistency.

Responses for supply and installation have been:
1. $3357
2. $3276
3. $5500 (WTF??!!)
4. Not available till August (due with the F34)

And companies wonder why their customers look around for better deals...

I haven't tried the "install only" angle as Jono did in NZ, but I would be preparing myself for a response involving "homologation costs are higher in Aust for a smaller end market, and the part from GetBMWParts.com would void your warranty blah blah"...

Seriously, it's an intake, some coding and a couple of stickers....Joke.

Good info, we need to send a clear message to BMW about their pricing on this.
I hope you replied to those dealers letting them know what you thought!!!
I'm going to talk to my dealer about the install only option, sure they don't have to do it, but any talk about voiding your warranty etc should be shouted down...It's a factory BMW part and upgrade.
$5,500 WTF alright.....
Cheapest price i've heard of so far for supply and install in North America is approx $1100AUD. Same parts, same job, OK maybe slightly higher labour costs here. But an almost 500 percent difference, that's criminal.
BTW way just got off the phone with my service centre and they've never heard of a PPK.

I had no pushback from my dealer at all about using the US-sourced parts. In fact they were enthusiastic as it was the first F30 335i PPK they'd installed. They were impressed.

BMW parts have a worldwide warranty so that will not be an issue, no matter what BMW Au may like to say! Use the Online BMW ETK to verify the part number for your car if you need to make a case in support of it with your dealer.

All I can say is do it! Whatever it takes, but don't spend over $2k on it!

So why don't you ask SouthernBM to install it?

David, I might indeed look into that option. Not sure of the warranty issues but if it is a genuine BMW part it should be ok, no?

One more email has come back from a dealer on the PPK.

PPK with control unit (DME) = $6300 fitted
PPK without control unit (DME) = $3900 fitted

$6300??!! GetBMWParts.com seems to be charging $900 odd USD + $100 for a new DME, and installation seems to be $300-400 in the US.

Am I missing something here??

Sheesh...

$6300 must be for the new PPK500 option which includes a larger turbocharger and 500bhp.

You're not missing anything here..... $6,300 (that's a new record) vs $1200usd (cheapest i've seen it installed for on these forums) OVER 500 % difference. BMW you are a shameful organisation, and i challenge you all to go down the import path. Teach these thieving dealers a lesson.

Did you ask any dealers if they're prepared to do the install with parts you provide? I tried something similar with the M performance suspension recently, and although the dealer wouldn't do the install, I got the impression they would if the parts had been approved for the Aus market (which they hadn't). That shouldn't be an issue for the ppk.

I'm still loving the PPK in my car - it really transforms the car. So you've got to do it! At $6300 is would be cheaper to ship your car to NZ and get it installed at my dealer for NZD$305 incl GST.

Anyone else purchased PPK in OZ?

I was quoted by a dealership in Sydney for $3850 parts and labour including a new DME, or $780 labour only.

So the good news is that they are willing to do it if you supply the parts. But there is a VIN specific programming code that you would need to obtain from the overseas dealership where you purchase the kit from.

You can probably import it for around $1K, so with $780 labour it starts to sound reasonable.

When you buy from getbmwparts.com you get a red envelope in the package which includes the FSC code.

My dealer installed for NZD~$350.

It's probably the best option on the car to be honest, loving it!

My dealer has just advised me "Just spoke to our service supervisor, unless it's Australian complied, as an authorized dealer we can't fit it thru our workshop". Damn and blast, was planning on doing this! Anyone know why BMW Oz haven't released this yet?

Which dealer in Sydney BTW agreed to an install only? I'll definitely be going down that path.
PM me if you don't want to say... cheers.

For anyone that missed it - details of N20B20 PPK.

PPK for ours shouldn't be far behind I imagine. As someone else said, I'm prepping a kidney for sale to cover the cost...

Okay, can anyone comment on the feedback I got from my dealer that until the PPK is Australia compliant, they won't install?

Speaking to someone at work today, they suggested an independent BMW service shop, would they be able to apply the FSC number, though - doesn't this need access to bmw's system?

I don't think so, I was clear that I wanted to buy from o'seas. They finished up by saying "If it becomes available not a problem". We'll see. I haven't given up yet.
