Selling leased car in CA out of state

Hi,

Trying to sell leased car(BMW Fin) to out of state. According to BMW i can not transfer title to new owner if he pays the car off. Only i can get title and then sign title to him. Do I have to pay tax? trying to avoid double tax here. Thank you for your help

Easiest option for all involved is to transfer lease and let new person buy out from there. Second best is have a friendly dealer do a pass through deal for you.
