Recently ordered MPPK + MPE to finish off my 335i which I picked up in December. This was my first BMW, but I totally got taken in with the M Performance parts (in my opinion it is how an 'M Sport' *should* look from the get go...) - bought it with the aerodynamic kit, CFRP components e.t.c but didn't initially do anything with the drivetrain, so I felt it was about time to add the actual 'performance'. I was a little concerned soon after though, as, after reading around these forums, it seemed that the 'EU' version of the MPE available in the UK would be 'sub-par' compared to the US version. Happy to report fears were misplaced.

First impression on firing up at the dealership was "wow!"... even with zero miles on it, it instantly has a very different, rich sound, that is both deeper and louder, but not obnoxious - it turned heads on the cold start, mine included. Hard to describe, and doesn't always come though on video, but it definitely sounds much more 'high performance' than stock

I'm still missing the tips. I'd been torn between going for MPE and the Akrapovic, but quibbles over warranty put me off, so even though I was hankering after the CFRP, I went for MPE. Couldn't believe it when I found out BMW are now providing the tips in CFRP, so I quickly changed the order.... only, it turns out they are still being made and not available anywhere til June(!), so the exhaust looks a little odd for now:

As far as the power kit, definitely impressed. I've only driven a few miles, but there is a distinct change in character; the car now has a touch of savagery about it. I've noted the same as other posters have, that from about 2K there a significant increase in the way it picks up, also manifest with traction control stepping in more (I guess to be expected with the extra torque). The burbles in sport are much more pronounced than I expected too.

Overall, I'm really happy with the way this completes the car and would definitely recommend MPPK with MPE to others. I look forward to the tips arriving and the exhaust bedding in over the next ~1000 miles.

Here it is, day two, cold start-up:

I had the MPPK installed today. When I bought the car I already had the MPE port installed so the difference from when I got it is very minimal. I haven't pushed the car yet and won't be until after summer when we start going back to the track again. I'll post a review after that. Until then, I'll enjoy it as much as I can.

Difference in sound, you mean?

Yes in sound. I didn't hear how the stock exhaust sounds so i really can't tell how different it is from stock. Performance wise, I haven't really pushed the car yet so I don't know but from normal driving there really is very minimal difference.

Here it is with tips installed, the first time I walked up to the car at the dealership it was a "holy **** they're massive!..."

The exhaust as a whole is bedding in very nicely, I love the 'thump' on the up-shift in sport.

Can you confirm that the product number of your MPE ends with "339" (EU version) and not with "340" (US version).
I have the EU version (of course) and I'm very disappointed with its sound!
Can you post a video of yours? Thank you in advance

The part number on the invoice ends in 339 - I did go to the dealer expecting to be disappointed from what I read here (the 340 vs 339 thing), but as I mentioned, it sounded instantly better when I picked it up and fired it up first time. I've got a long journey coming up which will take it over 1000 miles since install, I'll try getting a video once that's been reached.

The inner pipe (of the tips, not the actual exhaust itself) has an external diameter of 80mm, the external diameter of CF sleeves is 92mm. I don't know what the stock diameters were, but I just remember being really surprised (read - grinning like idiot!) when I saw the car first time with the new tips. I suppose they are pricey for what they are (bit over double the price of the Chrome tips), but they do look the part, and go well with the rest of the vehicle.

My "339" sounds this way at cold start:

And this way at warm revving and on acceleration:

I can assure you that "340" sounds noticeably better: louder and deeper!
I'll be waiting for your video, but I'm pretty sure it will sound like mine...

It will be a bit over a week's time, but I'll try getting a decent video.

I unfortunately don't have a video of how mine sounded at stock, but I did notice the difference - granted, volume can be pretty subjective, but the frequency and 'detail' for want of a better phrase, was noticeably different when I got the new exhaust.

I noticed on the top video yours does sound a lot like the stock exhaust :/ (though you have to admit it sounds better when pulling away in the second)

Any idea what the specific difference is between 339/340?

I think there are differences in the materials inside the muffler...
So, doubtless it sounds better than stock, but only a couple of % points better according to me!
340 sound is another story, believe me
Anyway, I'll be waiting for a video of yours

Video's below - the 'cold start' video was actually done afterwards (you'll notice the car was somewhat cleaner...!)

Cold start (haven't cropped it, and I wandered off for a while - - so, skip to ~2:10 once bored for light revs):

'second' video with engine warm (this is after a ~250mile drive) - 0- 45 secs in Comfort mode, 47 sec - 1:20 in Sport, 1:21 to 1:29 in Eco Pro, then two more revs in Comfort, two in Sport:

I didn't notice until watching this how much it burbles in 'comfort' - can't normally hear it from the cabin, unlike 'sport'.

Overall I'm very happy with the exhaust, I noticed straight away the difference to stock and I've still not done the ideal '1000 miles' for it to bed in. As far as 339 vs 340, only way to tell for sure would be to film two cars at the same time, can't see how that is going to happen

Mmmh... No, the quality of the sound ricording is nicer than my Iphone (the sing of birds in the first video is awesome ), but your MPE sounds exactly like mine and it's far from the 340 version...
Have you got the MPPK? Because during full acceleration the outside sound is covered by the "hasssssh" of the airbox intake (the MPPK one has an additional hole): try it
The "burbling" is surely pleasant, but my expectations were much higher.

How many miles on your car? I am at 7,700 miles now, and mine pops and snaps almost like a back fire now. Got way better as the engine broke in.

6800km.
But you are american, aren't you? So you've got "340" MPE: better sound!

Are we able to explicitly order the 340 exhaust version if our dealer usually supplies the 339 version?

@DR_G - is your exhaust version 339 or 340?

This is on my stock exhaust. I'm at 335hp with my MPPK. I'm afraid to put the MPE, that it would be too loud.

Yes, from the states.

MPE sounds better than stock, but I don't think anyone would ever describe it as too loud...it's very subtle.

I'm actually selling mine to get something louder...
