I think that's how Porsche does it.

I saw on the coding section, some people got the updated version which for some reason, when they put in F80 S55 it doesn't work, actually, any other combo deactivates it except for the correct one for your car iirc. It seems like they added an extra line of code that has to be changed as well or the car checks to make sure it's correct

I think this is exactly what has happened. I just spent a few minutes coding with this some more:

- F080 body, S55 engine type - turns ASD off to my ears
- F030 body, S55 engine type - turns ASD off to my ears (invalid, should turn it off from other threads - but no difference from the above)
- F030 body, N55 engine type - turns ASD off to my ears
- F030 body, B58 - ASD is active and sounds good to my ears!

Also worth noting - no difference between comfort/sport in any of the combos but the last default one. Makes me believe they are checking somewhere in the config and not allowing people to play with this anymore, at least on the LCI 340i.

Agreed - I think the ASD sounds great in sport mode. Doesn't sound artificial to me. Definitely a difference from comfort. Can test by holding a gear with or without load. Switching between the two is definitely dramatic.

Would love to know how he did that. Defiantly something I would consider.

That video is mine and it used to work before BMW updated my firmware to v58.3. Changing it to M3/4 does nothing now. You can find instructions on how to code the M3/M4 sound in the coding section of the forum (look for the cheat sheet). You have to change the engine to S44 and chassis to F80.

Interesting.

Since the first day I sat in my car, it feels pretty quiet. I tested it today and I'm 99% sure there is no ASD. Should I tell my dealer?

It's there. You really notice it when it's gone after coding. It even droned.

I don't think mine has it. I was in my parking garage and placed a sound level meter next to the speakers while giving is some gas. Nada

I drove the 340i at "the un4gettable test drive" and it was significantly louder.

Kind of disappointed cuz the car is very quiet even with MPE. Not sure if I should call my SA and get it diagnosed or what.

Have you had a chance to check if any errors appear with the ASD module? I was reading through some threads, and there is apparently a way to check all the modules for faults using Rheingold.

Don't have anything to read for faults.

Does anyone have a video of what the 340i ASD should sound like?

I can confirm about this...a member helped to code my car today and it seems like the LCI 340i can no longer have different ASD. The codes are still available in ECU, but there is no result in terms of the actual ASD from the car speakers. Oh well...

I can confirm as well that the M3/M4 sound does not work for the 340i.

I'd rather it be the actual exhaust and engine than a played back recording. Believe me, ASD is better off deactivated.

Hi Guys, I am new in this forum and about to be a first time BMW owner. I really need your advise/suggestions on smt. I have been a Volvo s60 user and was happy with it but I needed smt more powerful so decided on a 2014 335i M-Sport, Techno Package/Navi, Premium, Drv. Assistance in 35K miles. However, I have another option, with only $1500 more that is a 2017 340xi but sport package (not M-Sport) and no Technology Package (has navi) only in 11K miles.
Which one does sound more reasonable to you? (both CPO)
Thank you

Best to start a new topic when asking a new question.

Long story short the 340i is faster. I prefer the M Sport over standard, but HUD from the tech package is nice. Only you can make the decision on what compromises to make. Personally, I wouldn't go for either. Look for a 340i RWD M Sport to avoid regrets.
