Could very well be that simple. I hope so for your sake. Did you ask the BMS guys?

Seems like a minor issue. The CEL can be annoying.

So whats the deal will a completely stock car get a CEL from the intake alone? I am planning to do intake first.

the vacuum hose was a tight fit, not so sure if it clicked since it was tight.
thanks for the picture, but i am trying to see how far the other side of the intake goes into the tube.

Have you asked BMS for assistance yet? Given the code it has to be the MAF sensor not inserted properly or damaged I'd think or perhaps the opening for the MAF on your intake was not made deep enough. First thing I'd do pull out and check the MAF visually. If it all looks OK I would swap back to the OEM intake to see if the code stays off that way.

Just checked the MAF, Everything is fine, no damage. Contacted BMS, Jon told me this intake is designed for jb4. Stock "may" not be compatible. I could still run it, but just the annoyance of CEL. Hopefully there's some way around this. Seems like running this intake STOCK, will throw codes.

That's annoying. Oh well...I guess I'll go elsewhere for my intake since I don't have a JB4.

Too bad the info on the intake fails to say, "only designed to be used with JB4 tunes."

They just mentioned to me they have an idea for untuned cars that they will test out next batch which should take care of this MAF code and allow use of the intake with the OEM tuning. But until then the intake is for JB4 cars only.

Hopefully this will happen. But until then, I'll run this for a few weeks and see if the code will go away. Will probably go back to stock until I get a tune.

EDIT: Terry emailed me saying they are going to adjust the MAF placement on the tube for the next batch to try and solve this problem.

It's like adding a downpipe. Without a JB4 you also get a code. That is why the normal order for adding parts is JB4 first then intake and/or downpipes. The good news is there are a few other F30 intake options for you if you want intake only. Although they probably don't move as much air.

I don't think it is even comparable to adding a downpipe...I've never added an intake whether is be SRI or CAI and it yielded a code or had to be matched with a tune.

Agree. I can understand why a downpipe throws a code since you're removing a cat. An upgraded air filter should not throw a code - that's just poor R&D.

I agree that it should not throw a code but calling it poor R&D is far from reality. They designed this thing to move as much air and see as much gains as possible - period. And they accomplished that.

Plus they have a disclaimer on all their products calling them "for offroad/track use only"

Mike
Where does it say anywhere.. on the BMS website that this is designed for use with JB4 only and not stock, it is just an intake after all. If i had known that i would not of bought it.
I have a stock car and if i run in to problems then i will be expecting a full refund... i think that's fair?..... or i'll get a JB4!!!

More air...could confuse the MAF which explains the code. Def annoying....let us know how it shakes out!

I doubt clearing the code will eliminate this...maybe get some MAF cleaner and address the terminals to make sure they didn't get dirty when installing it? Who know, these things are so sensitive.
