I haven't discussed it with the dealer & just went directly to PDR (paintless dent removal) for repair. I've had probably 6 new cars over the course of the past 10 years & unfortunately every one of them has had this issue to some degree although the BMW seemed to be more visible. The skin on cars is so thin these days in order for lighter cars/better fuel economy. My previous 2 mercedes would literally dent if you pushed the door shut in just the wrong place. On one occasion I was even polishing a hairline scratch & ended up with a minor dent. Also be careful how you shut the trunk & hood. I've learned to shut the trunk with my hand on the license plate vs the top of the lid (I've made that mistake in the past too. : As far as the 2 creases I had on this car... When the hood was down & latched you could clearly see the crease on each side, however when the hood was opened just slightly they disappeared. Now that the glue under the skin has been broken after the PDR ...when the hood is locked down ... No dents. But when fully open... the dents magically appear once again. I prefer it the way it is now. lol It all has to do with how the outer skin of the cars is glued to the braces. Changes in temperatures can cause dents/creases to appear. A few years ago we also had a Passat that while sitting at work in below freezing temperatures I came out to find my car with several dents in all 4 doors. I initially thought someone had vandalized the car, however once I got home & the car warmed up in the garage it was back to normal for the most part.

After seeing the post and the picture, I went outside to check my hood, and it's dent free

Yeah the other day I was in a parking lot & spotted an F30 & couldn't resist the urge to check the hood... My friend told me I looked ridiculous leaning down to check it out so I guess I won't do that again. Haha btw... It was dent free

Every time I wash it and go to dry the hood right in that same spot I feel it pop down and then pop back up. I'm just waiting for one of these times when it doesn't pop out.

I had 2 of these mysterious dents appear on my new F30 hood only a month or so after I bought it. I don't think i could see it in the sunlight but one day in my garage the overhead lights reflected in a certain way and f**k there they were. 2 dents right on the crease line in the hood on the passenger side. I took it to the dealer and they PDRd it for $200 and it looks like new. I have no idea how it happened

After reading a couple of other forums on other sites, it appears that this is extremely common for the thin aluminum hoods? Any sort of leaning in this particular area from a car wash guy, someone leaving a flyer on your car, or even opening your hood can do this from what I read.
4. Either that or I have a neighbor that's f..ing with me big time!

Anyone else experience this??

As an experiment I looked at the other F30 in my parking area - BOOM, same dent, same place. I'm sure I'm not alone now...

Any experiences with dealers fixing this for free - since this appears to be common and related to a poorly made hood???
Yes! Wow, I finally found a thread on this. My f02 has that same dent, albeit 4 or 5 inches from the driver side trailing edge.

This dent has appeared on 5 hoods I have had on three f02. I just got a new hood and it's back.

Here is my lame theory:

1. Dark Hood gets sun combined with engine heat.
2. I use a touch less car wash with high velocity wind dryer.
3. The torsional forces under the conditions cause the sag or dent to appear over time.

LMAO

Last weekend was the first time I have opened the hood (getting ready to try a piggy back LOL) and I looked carefully at it before even hitting the release.

Don't see anything yet, will be looking again this weekend after I install the piggy back.

haha, me too. I was checking it yesterday on my F32 and I don't see anything. Maybe it's an F30 and F02 problem only....for now.

No dents but the hood area seems very fragile. It is the kind of place people would lean on when cleaning the windshield or washing the car.

Why let some dumba$$ wash your car and risk it? I limit access to my cars...try not to valet and certainly don't do the car wash scene. Wash it yourself. No one will baby it more than you will.

There's definitely something here

I never had a hood dent issue on a BMW before in 10 years but this F30 car must have some manufacturing or design defect in the way the hood is either stamped or reinforced. Some day I bet There will be a recall and I'll get reimbursed. In any case my hood is perfect now. I'll have to watch it.

428i here. Every time I take my car for a wash, including today, same dent,, same spot, usually only on my passanger side, but also seen on drivers side.. within minutes to hours it pops back up, like it never happened.
I too await the day it does not pop back out.

When my dent repair guy played with the bonnet on my F32 he mentioned it had a lot of flex.

Also - a friend picked up his new F80 M3 this week and the dealer explained closing the bonnet was best done with fingers on the far left and right edges of the bonnet - I wonder if there was a reason!

Yep, I have it now on both sides of that hood body line in the same place brought on by my local car wash and detail center and I'm pissed off and disgusted!
My dealer practically looked at me as if I was crazy when I went to complain about the flaw in the design of the hood. I'm crossing my fingers that they can be removed by a Dent Doctor!

Dont worry - theyll work their magic and fix it perfectly.

From now on, identify the issue with a dealer when you leave it for repair and have them confirm there are NO dents when you leave it.

And close it carefully on the left and right edges rather than in the middle....
