At least the 405Ms are a legitimate performance upgrade. I.e. they're forged and lightweight. I paid about $4200 for mine with new Pirelli p-zero run flats. If you account for the cost of the tyres, the wheels roughly set me back about $2300. Not overpriced for a set of forged wheels I think.
No need to get upset. If you have them and you love them great. Personally I don't like them and for the money I believe there are better alternatives out there. It's my opinion and the OP asked for thoughts from other members.

Hmmm... not upset in the slightest. Merely explaining why I disagree with you.

I still think the 405M looks fantastic -- if I could justify the spend right now (major house renovation underway!) I'd have them in a heartbeat! I'll have to stick with the 403M for now.

Thanks all for the feedback.

I am looking at other after market wheels as well but the 405M wheels just look so good. But looks aren't everything so wanted to get an idea of what the drive with them was like.

Will update with pics once I finally decide. Thanks again.

Thanks, but they don't look right to me on the 3, still prefer to 405M by quite some margin.

In how many miles do the 403 and 405 need tire replacements, and how much do the tires cost, any idea?

I read somewhere that 403 is 10k miles but I cant find where I read that. How many miles on the 405?

403's allegedly get 15k from what I've heard. Going by their rating they get up to 20k, but realistically expect 15k

Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires are very typical if you get rid of the run flats, run you about $1k on tirerack

How many miles you achieve on a set of tires is directly related to your behavior behind the wheel.......just like gas mileage.

Just to provide an update... after all the back and forth on 403m vs 405m... I ended up getting the 19" BBS CHR rims with Michelin PSS Apologies for the quality of photos. The weather has not been very cooperative.

If I was going to spend $4k on wheels I would be purchasing forged BBS. The 400 and 403 wheels are HEAVY over 26lbs just for fronts. BBS forged shed 5lbs.

The 405 wheels are not all the pretty looking IMO - the black with "tuning" fork look just comes across odd to me.

You are a very wise person, balancing weight with looks, exactly the route I am taking. I never understand why people install heavy wheels just so they look good when it greatly reduces braking, lateral g and acceleration performance not to mention reduced fuel mileage.

That is one thing I noticed coming from the STI world where in those forums most everyone is concerned about wheel weights, but in BMW forums seems most people are concerned about looks - weird.

I agree, looking at getting black or silver rims, and black you normally cant even see, and so hard to photo.

Maybe the 405 being black and silver the best of both worlds

Hi mate thought better let you know 328i are not that much about 70 i think, the 340i top 3 series (no M3) is under $90k drive away and GST i was quoted $102k
Spend $8000 on performance kit on bmw and faster and much better than the HSV will be for maybe another 10 years unfortunately( I say that as bought 10 new holdens and this 1st bmw), last two cars have been HSV and unlikely the next.

You got a great bargin i thought i did well with 4500 for rims and wheels. They are 6k for rims only from bmw australia, thats crazy.

Your sooooo right about the weight its crazy. 45kg including packagingmine are with UPS flying around the world. Hope they look great not seen on a car yet in real life.

Far and interesting points.

I was looking for a long time but only could find heap wheels to fit that were not old and been around for a decade. Staggered made harder Advanti Catala CL i think the name look great but Australia not bringing in staggared sizes...

But most are heavy and amazing how dramatic the car dynamucs are changed.

My EB2 M Performance edition 335 included the 405m wheels. I wasn't sure that I liked them at first. The thin spoke design looked a bit too dainty against the more brute aesthetic of the car. But since purchasing the car a few weeks ago, the 405m's have really grown on me. There is no other wheel out there that looks like this and I have come to appreciate its unique design. I really wanted the 624m's, but decided that I wasn't willing to wrestle the wheel into the deal, so I just stuck with the 405m's.

The 403's have also been a favourite of mine. I feel that this wheel design fits the car perfectly design wise. I'm thinking this may be a good winter wheel for my car.
