Any other hi-performance hobby's?

I guess it goes without saying that most BMW and other performance oriented car owners also like other "go fast" machines.
So what do you people enjoy other than cars?

This is my other speeding ticket machine:

2004 Yamaha FZ1
HP = 129
0-60 = 2.7
0-100 = 6.39
1/4 m = 10.55@129.7

Nice!
I'm planning to get my bike license soon. I'll probably start out with a used bike or maybe get an R6. I really like the R1 but I was told by my friends it's not a good beginner's bike.

I've got a little old SV650 sitting in the garage

it doesn't get much road time though, now that I don't live in LA and can get around fine without needing to split lanes!

The R6 isn't a good beginner bike either. I'm going to get my license soon as well though. I'm planning on getting a Ninja 250R or an used Yamaha FZR 400.

I held back from saying that too,

shim's correct, the R6 is plenty fast to get a beginner in trouble quick

not a great starter bike.

funny, even on a car site we all warn each other from starting on a possibly dangerous machine

Um ...................................

Seriously though, it IS "Hi-Performance" and it's a big hobby of mine.

Haven't had a chance to ride a bike yet, I remember growing up always wanting a bike when I was a little but somehow it changed to cars. I still want one though, but not nearly as much as before.

Thanks for letting me know about the R6.
I have a friend that just started riding and got a new R6 as a beginner bike.

What are some good beginner bikes?

anythying cheap and light is usually pretty good

check out www.beginnerbikes.com IIRC that's the site

full fared bikes are tough as most riders will drop their bikes at some point in time and farings are expensive to repair/replace

the SV650's are great bikes, the Honda 599, yamaha FZ6,
suzuki GS500, ninja 250 and 500

people have learned on 600cc supersports, but they're really really fast bikes
glad to see people starting though, just be careful!!

One high performance sport I can recommend is performance cycling. The feeling of going down a hill at 50mph without any motorized assistance is CRAZZY!

Here's mine from back in the day.

I raced superbike for 4 years with the CRA and WERA. Was a three class champion and ranked 8th overall. Career ended in '94 with a crash in turn 4 at BIR. my arm and head were run over at about 70mph, not fun. Still living with injuries related to the crash 10" plate and 12 screws in my right arm and bottom 4 vertebrae fused.

To the guy thinking of starting with an R6, please think again. A Ducati Monster or the FZ6 are just as fun with loads of torque and power, but a more controlable riding position. Please don't kill yourself and if you do, make sure you're an organ donor.

When I lived in the MidWest 10 years ago, IJSBA JetSki Racing was so much more fun for me than Sportbikes, Autocrossing, and Bracket Racing.

You could take the cylinder head off, change the compression ratio with domes, disassemble your engine and tinker with your two-stroke motor with ease, play with sponsons, impeller pitches, reeds, pipes, scoop grates, etc. Very rarely does one get to immediately see the benefit of elbow grease, and thoughtful experimentation.

#600 is me 30 lbs lighter/10 years younger.

Oh yes... Business up Front/Party in the rear... The good old Kentucky Mud Flap, Canadian Passport, Camaro Cut...

I teach web design at an Ai and some of my students found the photo online. You wouldn't imagine the sh*t I still get to this day.
