Hi all,

I have found few quotations on ALA reg the tyre insurance and it seems quite tempting.

Is it worth buying the insurance?

In a word, yes.

I paid £259 and have claimed for 4 tyres.

I've just gone with tyreinsurance123, £240 for 3 years cover (19" run flats). £300 claim limit per tyre and 5 claims allowed over the 3 years. No excess or deduction for tyre wear as long as they are legal and you can claim for tyres that have already been replaced. I hope I never have to use it as punctures are a real pain!

Does it cover what the tyre fitter says?

Last time I got a puncture, the tyre place refused to repair it - even though it was in the middle of the tread because it was a high performance car.

I think if you're a higher mileage driver and pretty sure you'll keep the car for the duration of the policy then it's potentially good value.

The company I've gone with state that they do not repair run-flats so it would be a new tyre every time.

Snap with mine . 3rd car I have had it on, with same company & they have always paid out without issue.

Interestingly enough, when I bought the M235i, I found that they've changed the terms re wear on tyre insurance offered. Now it's 100% contribution on anything above 2mm up to 5 tyres. Was a no brainer to go for as covers the PSS I've got on the car. One I had on the 335d was crap as ended up I was more than likely having to cover 50% of cost due to wear and BMW charged about 50% more than Black Circles. I complained to BMW a while back. Seems I probably wasn't the only person!

Thanks fro sharing the details. will have to consider this even if their website is not giving me a quote now that my car is older than 30 days!. Dont really drive much but recently got my first puncture in 8 years!

It depends on the Policy provider, when I had run flats and insured with BMW they were only covered until they wore down to 6mm, it just wasn't worth it for me. The above deal seems to be much better.

Thats great. I did speak to ALA this morning and liked the product however I see that tryeinsurance123 has good reviews too.

Yes! Cost me £250 to have my run flat replaced which only had 6000 miles on it. Could quite easily get another bulge and there goes another £250.

As with all insurance products, they can be worth the money if you need them.

I took out tyre insurance for my Used Approved 330D when I bought it - car2cover came out as the best value. The policy provider is Motorway Direct, but I didn't know that when taking out the policy. A few things to look out for :

- Does the value of the payout reduce according to tyre wear ? Some policies, including BMW's tyre insurance, reduce the payout by factoring-in wear & tear
- The number of claims within the insurance period
- Limitations regarding replacing a tyre on the same wheel more than once during the term of the policy
- The maximum value of each claim
- Whether more than one tyre can be claimed concurrently, i.e. if you drove through a pothole and destroyed two tyres on the same side of the car at the same time
- Whether you could change they tyre type, i.e. runflat to regular rubber, and still be covered

As with all insurances, compare carefully and read the small print before parting with your cash.

Coincidentally, I saw your post yesterday and was going to reply but had a busy day. Got in my car this morning and had a puncture within a couple of miles - a screw straight through the middle of the tread. Motorway Direct approved the replacement of tyre, so that's around £180 of the cost of the policy recovered so far.

Why ALA? It states that tyres have to have minimum 2mm of tread across for a claim to be made. I'm sure my cover just states legal 1.6mm but I'll check. Edit, it just says legal limit.

I will be removing the RFTs fro my car and replacing with Michelin Pilot Super Sports as part of a number of changes to improve the ride quality.

car2cover has confirmed that even though my tyre insurance if for RFTs, the policy will cover the repair or replacement of any tyre approved by BMW. BMW has confirmed that approved tyres have a star on the sidewall.

Good to know that I won't have lost out on my tyre insurance cover.

Hi,

I just thought of ALA because I have my existing GPA insurance from them, however car2cover and tyreinsurance123 are getting more votes. Should it matter if I go with a different supplier for the tyre insurance?
