What's the benefit of having it mounted in the engine vs the old method by the fuel tank? I have the older one below my rear seat on my B58. Is there any problems that necessitated a hardware installation location change?

One benefit is more accurate measurements. By the time the fuel is next to the engine the proportion of E85 to regular gas will be the closest it'll be to when it gets burned.

As one of the guys said, more accurate (and faster) measurement.

But mainly, easier to install as you don't need to remove seats and fish the wiring through the doorjam.

Mine is already installed on the LPFP, so no need to fuck around lol.

Hi All,

Looking to add the Bm3 flexfuel module to my 2018 440 convertible. I have seen numerous videos about the F body 3 and 4 series coupes and sedans, but not the convertible.

Other series like 2 and 6 convertibles have a different location from sedans and coupes.

Can anyone please chime in on the fuel hat and ekp module location on the 4 series convertible? Different from the others?

Should be the same as the rest, fuel hat is under the seats.

You can lift the rear seats to check.


B58 doesn't use ekp for plug in, it uses the Footwell module.

There's about 0.05 gal of gas in the fuel lines between the tank and the injectors. So if you have the sensor at the tank, the ethanol content your DME is currently running on is actually whatever your engine is going to get in about a mile of driving. If you make a major change on ethanol content tank to tank, you are basically driving on a completely wrong tune for about a mile. No bueno. It's why I went with Dorch about a year ago...good to see PTF realize this and offer a safer option.

Yeah but what does it matter as long as you aren't gunning it. I always keep it under 2500 RPM for a good 3-5 miles prior to going WOT after moderate-major ethanol mixture changes

That's right. I'm not the only driver of my car though, so there is a scenario where someone else fills her up with 91 after a tank of E30. I didn't really want to have to explain that to people (my wife).

Still doesn't matter, the ethanol sensor updates itself very quickly even at the lpfp.

By the time you drive off after you turn on the car, and stop at the first stoplight, the ethanol content will already have fixed itself.

The point is not about how fast the ECA reads. It's about the fact that the ethanol content at the LPFP is not the same as what is being injected into the engine after a large ethanol content change, and this happens for about a mile.

For anyone who installed in a F30 engine bay, how does the sensor sit inside the insulator foam under the cowl? I could not find it in their website documentation, and they used a Supra for the video (doesn't even show putting the foam back on).

I am contemplating between the engine bay vs. fuel hat, due to the fact that I am in California and it needs to be undetectable when the engine cover is pulled during smog check. Although the fuel hat location would be completely stealthy, I would prefer to have it installed in the engine bay due to said reasons in this thread.

I am hoping the sensor+included fuel line gets hidden inside/behind the foam?
