2018 BMW 3 Series

Hello,

Any updates even if slim for 2018? The bmwusa configurator sucks. The 19inch summer wheels can't be had without Track Handling Package? The build, in my opinion, is out of order until the summary page. Also, are black kidney grills no longer an option for the 3 series sedan? I saw carbon fiber mirror caps as an option. No MPPK as an option as well. Any explanation to my questions would be awesome. I really like the 19 inch summer wheels but didn't realize that is only available with the Track Handling Package...correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks!

The M Performance options are available at your dealer when you place your order. Not always available to select with an online build.

Yeah there were a ton of options not available for me when I built my 2017 340. Definitely ask the dealer to provide all available options, the Build you Own on BMW website frigin sucks.

Correct re the 19" tires. I got the 442 wheels and had to get the track pack. Overall I think it will be worth it though for the bigger tires, better looking wheels and massive brakes

Go directly to the dealer and talk to a SA. Sit down and build it step by step with them and make sure you get a list of every possible option (e.g. leather dash, wheel options, etc.). The online configurator is a starting point and not an end point.

Do you have a copy of the ordering guide?

Even that doesn't show everything. Like I wish I would have known more about the leather/leatherette dash option and more about individual options when I ordered my 2017.

Wow, there are more options than I thought there would be. It kind of sucks that I would have to go the dealer to build car exactly to my liking. My goal is to build online like every other car website and send out the pdf to a few dealerships for quotes. To go to each dealership and sit down and build with salesman or SA is a little ridiculous. I'll see. Thanks for all the great info!

Their website is HORRIBLE... And now worse than it was before. Clearly they dont know what they are doing when it comes to websites

Regardless of its deficiencies or limitations the BMWNA Build Your Own is more detailed and better than any other manufacturer's site I've ever looked at and used, including Mercedes and Audi.

I'm pretty picky and I'm not a big fan of the new format of BMW's BYO, but I find that it still contains the same information it always has.

Never use the BYO tool to get this information. Always use the PDF ordering/pricing guides. Those are the rules you must adhere to, the online configurator tells you nothing.

Actually on a recent F36 build I found the reverse to be true. Was using the manual guide until someone shared the demo version of the online tool as the public consumer facing tool is still showing 2017 models and the online tool allowed for an option that the printed guide said was not available.

Not sure if the printed guide from 2/3/17 was just old and I needed a more current one or if there is truly a difference. The actual ordering system at the dealership matched up with the demo version of the online guide.

I think the moral of the story is to check with the SA after doing your homework and double check exactly what is or is not available and don't think that we already know. Had I followed the info I had I would have left an option off and not even asked.

It's been horrible for years. This is not a situation where they have a system problem and they fix it. They just don't care enough. The website is not their priority. I think they want us to get fed up with the build feature on the website and head to the dealer.

They just redid it... You would think they would have improved it..

And it does affect brand... My friend a long time BMW guy has become disillusioned with BMW... The website pushed him over the edge when he tried to build a M4 and had issues

He went to Merc.

I haven't tried it. I'll have to check it out.

It definitely affects the brand. Personally, I wouldn't leave BMW for that reason alone but if I were considering other brands it would become a factor.

I hope your friend likes the Mercedes. I rented the brand new E-Class for a month while in Europe last fall. I'm either getting older or they are getting better. I really liked that car.

BMW drives better... But Merc. hands down has a better interior. Externals - well that's just a matter of taste..

BMW is really starting to look dated in its design both externally and internally... The engineering is fine however... I am very happy with my new 440.

Still no updates :-) I guess I'm anxious to know. Realistically, G20 will be shown late 2018 as a 2019? Thoughts?

Yes, there are updates. works pretty well here. 2019 G20 is over a year away, maybe closer to 2. The 2018 order guides were just released:
