This could be the reason. I'm assuming the one I saw at the CIAS this year was fully loaded, so it must have had the power kit.

It's between the 340, 440 GC or an M3 for me at the moment. Definitely interested to see what the G platform will bring before I come to a verdict.

It'd be frustrating for me to own an M3 and not run it enough in the only place it could fully express itself which is on a racetrack.. none of its prowess could ever hope to be expressed on public roadways
Its already frustrating enough driving the 340 around all day.. the cops can attest to that.

It's an exercise in restraint, but every single open onramp and offramp, every single overtake, and anytime i'm in the canyons, the M3 tells me exactly how different is than my old 340i. Even just hitting the start button is a audio assault of M goodness.

So, when will the G20 be announced/unveiled? NAIAS 2018? Another show?

By the time the G20 comes out you will get a ridiculous deal on a m3 or 540i

MY18 F30 ends production Oct or Nov 2018 I do believe.
MY19 G20 would be a March 2019 I do believe.

Someone double check my memory.

Word. I own a 335 because I want speed with some comfort. Even though every Joe thinks it's a M3. I've had to humbly correct over a dozen people since I've owned it.

The M3/4 is quite comfortable. I actually find the M seats more comfortable than the Sport seats in my 328 and 340 M Sport. The ride is more rough than a stock 328 though.

They have turned that M logo into a joke anyway. I bet you can buy "M" underwear, for more performance

Maybe an M manicure kit...

I think the lighted M door sills were a pretty good indicator it had jumped the shark.

I'm not bashing sport or M models, just that the letter doesn't mean what is used to mean...
I'm down for ///M underwear with ///M stitching and a big ////////////M badge going down the crotch area.

Those M3/M4 seats are super comfortable.

I go back and forth over this daily. I WANT an M3, but I think I never get to drive my 340 to near it's potential and I start get irritated about feeling every tar strip and littlest bump on my 60 round trip commute nearly all on the HWY... then I think I'd be a fool to spend the extra money on an M3 and loose AWD.

Then I wake up the next day and think, "Man, I REALLY want an M3..." and re-rationalize why I didn't get it. Rinse and repeat. In fact I just woke up and thought, "fuck it, my next car is an M3..." haha

If BMW follows their recent trend (M240, M550, M760), there will only be a M340. I understand this strategy (it's essentially what Audi has done for years with their S models), but I do wonder whether it promotes down-gauging. I know someone who lives in NY and has driven non-MSport 550s for years. This year, when faced with what they perceived as a too firm M550 ride for Manhattan streets, they opted for a 540 instead. They would have preferred the bigger engine, but didn't want the M suspension and summer tires. I can see this as a potentially bigger problem for the 3er and 4er - forcing some buyers who want a 6-cylinder engine into a lesser, 4-cylinder model.

Strangely, no one has asked me if it's an M3. I have had two people tell me how much they liked my M4? (it's a 340xi)

M4. Oh geez. I think it's because of the side rocker panel stickers, and the front Lip. Not to mention now that bmw put M on every brake caliper, wheel, and MPE pipe.

I'll place my bets that the new generation 340 does not have any more power than the current b58 in The five series or M1 40

Yes. I was tempted to race a guy in an older well kept Mustang convertible. The old ones that had the garbage 4.6L 2006ish motor. Traffic was bad and I realized I am in my 30s, so I didn't. However it is nice to smoke then on occasion to make them realize their car only sounds good, but is not as fast as it sounds...
