Funny... i am thinking of locking in the 13/feb rates and just going for it. Will we be upset when 14 has the new Nav? Should we even care if we lease?

Not for resale value. But for operation over the next 2-3 years of driving...

Is the new Nav hosted by TomTom, rather than TeleAtlas? What does your NBT Navigation Version say in iDrive?

A few interesting observations I have made regarding the NBT:
  • Every 10 minutes, the traffic data (colored lines on the map) goes away for about 1 second and is refreshed. I guess it could be every five minutes, but I have only noticed the refresh at the 10 minute mark.
  • The traffic incident reports are quite helpful, especially because it indicates accidents and their point on the map. I don't remember how good this was on the CIC Nav?

Do you get Nav traffic incident notifications even when not using the Nav for guidance? I mean if traveling on a highway and there's a pile up ahead will the Nav notify you regardless of whether you set Nav guidance or not?

Screen resolution is the same as before, 1280x480. Graphics and lettering is very legible however. You really don't need more resolution at this distance, in my experience.

Yes, definitely. No guidance needs to be in effect. I can look on the map, see the road I'm on is Red and see the little icon for two cars crashed. There is an option for Display Traffic List (or something) and the map goes away to a list describing the incident, with a mini-view of the accident area on the right.

How does it work with CIC? I had this on my E92, but I don't recall the specifics.

But if you waited for a December build you would have gotten the new 4K resolution LCD.

Kidding, for others wondering if this is true!

Same, if I have the Map up on LCD. I'd like to be in other mode (Radio, etc.) and have traffic alerts pop up on right pane. That I haven't seen happen...yet. You?

Just yesterday I was on highway and it suddenly came to a crawl. No Nav warning, but when I clicked Nav button and got map up there it was plain as day on LCD. Argh!

Wish that right pane would pop up a tip telling me to check traffic. Maybe NBT does that?

I have poked around the NBT quite a bit, but saw nothing that would indication such a feature. I usually keep the map up, and if I'm worried about potential traffic I'll zoom out a bit and look for red/yellow where there should be none. That's how I spotted the accident indicator.

So you click back and forth between maps and music sources while driving but always revert back to maps? I just hop in, drive and enjoy tunes. Maps are used when I go somewhere unfamiliar (only once or twice in last couple months).

I know I can have maps and/or music in right pane on LCD. Not sure how I can control it when its in the right pane. Maybe HUD? I guess I need to play more.

This is related to an issue with CIC that I'd hoped would be addressed by now. With CIC, if you are navigating, but on another screen (like music or phone), or even just in non-split map mode, and nav voice is off, a navigation alert (upcoming turn, etc) would not appear. I missed a turn several times while on a phone call before I learned to change to nav screen directly after starting a phone call.

Basically, it was (is) not possible to get pop-up nav alerts without "arrow display".

I keep maps up because my extended display is Entertainment Info. So when I'm listening to Media, I have duplicated screen art right/left and it kinda drives me nutty. I can change tracks via the HUD of course but if I'm changing albums or sources I'll briefly get out of maps/Nav into Media/ConnectedDrive.

I'd have to double-check to make sure, but regardless of what is displayed on the iDrive, the HUD will still show you navigation alerts like upcoming turn.

Ahh, yes, as you mentioned almost a year ago!
"Navigation/iDrive screen is identical between 2009+ E9x cars, and the F30. 8.8" diagonal, and 1280x480 pixels, even wider than 21:9. [02/2012]"

Lettering frequently ran off the screen in the Assistance Window Arrow Display. A few more pixels could help, but then they should decrease the font size anyway.

On my drive home I spent a few minutes playing with this. I left it in Map mode with Music in the right pane (extended display) and can control the music using the dash/steering buttons. HUD allows me to easily change tracks. Not bad for the old "LBT" Nav. Seems pretty similar to your Star Trek Nav.

I also found by entering the right settings menu there were settings there I didn't even know about. Nav Sat image mode, other Traffic modes. Cool.

Question

Just ordered my F30 320D M Sport Alpine White today.
The car will be built after the 1st of march and it add some new stuffs :

- the price : 150€ more
- Emergency and intelligent call : 6AC (now standard on all cars in France)
- New advanced bluetooth connectivity : 6NS

I haven't found any informations about this new optionnal bluetooth 6NS.
I hope it will give the album art functionnality, audiostreaming and better compatibility with all smartphones. (cost 240€).
New functionnality added to the new NAV 609 ?

It appear that in Europe, Navigation (ZNP) no longer includes 6NL and is therefore cheaper. 6NS is the replacement add-on option code for 6NL. Functionality appears to be identical, just a packaging change.

Thanks for that. I've played with NBT before and to me it seems that aside from the faster menu navigation and better maps, its not really much different from CIC. Sad, because the new hardware platform should allow BMW to do a whole lot more. The troubling part is that based on their history when/if they do make a big software changes, they won't offer it to older NBT MY cars.
