Sports Display Accuracy
Anyone know how accurate the HP and Torque display is for the f30 335i? I could punch it and get close to the 320hp previously, so after adding a JB+ which claims to add 30 hp, I figured I'd see an increase on the gauge. So far I'm not seeing any changes. I would have expected to see the gauge max out since the additional HP should push it beyond the 320. Thoughts?

Make 3 WOT runs from 2500RPM through the shift into 4th gear back to back. That used to be enough to reset the JB4 into the cars max performance level.

Gauge isn't seeing any "increased boost". Every piggyback spoofs the DME that the boost pressure is lower than expected, so it cranks it up more to hit the expected target.
The sport display is 100% fluff, and means absolutely nothing. |

The Sport Display isn't just throttle position + RPM. It is also vehicle speed.
If I sit in Park, and rev the engine, the RPM goes up, the HP hovers around 10 or 15. So for 3 variables (RPM, throttle and speed), it's actually a fairly dynamic "gimmick." Given that HP is work per unit time, the fact that it seems to include speed means it's actually a crude dyno. Right? |

ok... but then the question is, how accurate is the Sport Display?
Some would say it's just a simple table lookup: RPM * throttle = value for the screen. But if it is taking into account actual engine load, that would mean it is more dynamic than a simple table lookup. |

It can measure the amount of fuel going into the engine. In a perfect world it could give you actual numbers.
Assuming A/F ratio is correct (use O2 sensors in exhaust) then you can calculate exact power just by how much gasoline is used. Piggybacks also mess with how much fuel is injected w/ boost. It's also how your MPG or L/100km gauge works. We don't live in a perfect world so the gauge's don't really mean much. It's a toy. Believe it as is if you like or you can use it as a relative gauge based on what your car CAN output. in your mind convert 300 (or whatever number is your max) to 100% and work from there |
