New tyres.....needed soon!? - Question
So to give you guys a bit of back story, when I got my car it had 18" 400M rims with run flat tyres, in the aim to make the ride better I bought some 19" wheels and put them on normal tyres.
To see if I made the right decision I went to a used car tyre place, I picked up 4 x 7mm tyres in the sizes below for just £150 for the set to see what the ride was like. It was much improved, so now that I have just over 3mm left on my tyres I am looking in to buying a new set. (The part worn tyres were installed 13th June) Sizes I need: 235/35/19 Front and 255/30/19 Rear. I phoned ATS Euromaster earlier and for 4 x Pirelli tyres they said were very good I would be looking at £750 fitted. So what I want to know is whats the best way to go about this, go to a garage and if so can you bargain a deal? Or shop around online? Secondly, is there anything else I need to be aware of AND do you guys have any recommendations for me. I do alot of city driving and do around 8000 miles a year. Thanks, Liam |

How many miles have you done to use 4mm in 3 months!?
You need 40's's on the front and 35's on the rear mate or your speedo will be incorrect! Pirellis wear very quick. You should go for Michelin Pilot Super Sports, you can get a set for under £700 from oponeo. |

The OEM front wheel take 225/40 so 235/40 would be better than 235/35 |

Okay so 100% 40's on front, but you definitely think this: 235/40/19 Front - 255/35/19 Rear (Or at the rear even a 265/35/19?) Would you go with 265 on rears over 255? |

Think your alloys are wider than standard bmw rims so I think you should be running 255/35/19's on the front and maybe 285/30/19's on rear. Have a play about with sizes on this site - http://www.tyresave.co.uk/tyre-size-calculator/ Your original set up was 225/45/18 front 255/40/18 rear |

The official size is 225/4019 & 255/35/19 . If you want to go wider I was advised 235/40/19 & 265/35/19 which is a change of +1.1% and 1.2%.

If you've gone through tyres that quickly, then, noting the very cheap price you paid for them, I seriously wonder if they were fakes.
My rear original tyres lasted 20k, my original fronts lasted 32k, 19" rims. |

Yes confirmed my fronts are 8.5 and rears 9.5 So you wouldn't go with 40 profile on the front and 35 on the rear? But stick to what I have now with 35/30? |

I'm no tyre expert but you cant deviate too far away from the diameter of your original tyre set up (+ or - 2.5%). Your fronts are basically the same as our rears. If you put your original 18" tyre sizes into the size converter and then play about with new sizes, bearing in mind you need to keep difference as low as possible.

Okay mate. I will do when I get home. But your saying I need to stick to 35/30 profiles but in front I can have anything from a 225-255 and on the rears a 255-285? |

I would say 255/35 on your fronts work for tyre stability and rim protection because we know them sizes are good for our rears. Guessing on rears though bearing in mind your rims are 25mm wider than ours.

ar68, thanks for linking that calculator. Been having trouble working out winter wheel/tyre sizes for Mrs X and this definitely helps.

Confusing stuff, think I might just stick with my current profiles of 35/30 but just go for a 265mm on the rear instead.
Ned to sit down when I have some more time and study that calculator. |

Your rears are 3.78% undersized which is too much. Once you put your original 18" sizes into that calculator all will become clear. Just try to keep that % as near to zero as you can whilst still maintaining a width that suits the rim. Tyres are extremely important so you need to get it right mate. |

Get the rear tyre sizes right and they will fill your arches a little more so maybe you don't need to think about ACS springs. You are 25mm under diameter at the moment. Dread to think what that is doing to your speedo reading. I don't know how speedos work these days.

Profile isn't really a choice, it is a function of your desired width. Assuming you are being sensible and trying to keep to the original spec circumference.

That's my only concern with ACS springs, to me its only the front that needs lowering every time I look at my car. |

Been speaking with ar68 and it seems:
235/40 front, 265/35 rears. or 225/40 front, 255/35 rears |
