I tracked the ship which I believe my new 2013 is on across the pond. It was delivered in New York earlier today and the status on the WW website is "customs release." Can any one tell me exactly what that means. Thanks, the anticipation is really building now.......

Quick question I signed up for bmwusa and I am in the track my 328i sedan and its in the production begins stage. Where do all these production codes show up references in the op? I don't see any codes I just see the order documented, prod begins (where I am now) prod ends, en route, finishing touches and at dealer I don't see the detail that others are stating am I in the wrong spot?

Do you know if it is possible to track cars getting shipped to Norway? Ordered mine last week, but I did not get a VIN number.

If you have the name of the vessel you can track it here ...

This allows you to see when your Bimmer might leave the port and make it to the US port when you have a production date and are trying to figure out when the car will arrive in your driveway.

In my case, the car can leave port on the 12th on one of two ships should things work perfectly, which means a valentines day delivery, or it can leave port on the Topeka on the 27th for an end of Feb delivery.

We shall see!
It only shows 2 vessels a month (Sept 7th and 21st, 2013) and only by WWL, is that accurate for Bremerhaven to Port Hueneme?

NYK lines also has ships that transports BMWs from Bremerhaven to Port Hueneme, but I have never seen a way to ID/track them on their web site.

A day or so after the car is on a ship, your dealer can tell you the name of the ship.

Thanks!
My car should be (hopefully) finished on September 6th, and I was hoping it would not have to wait for 2 weeks at the port.

None of the dealer in India offers european delivery, welt exclusive VIP tours of BMW facilities is just a distant dream i guess, i wonder how many people in europe would be preferring this mode of seeing europe coupled with shear driving pleasure of BMW?

I wondered the same thing. I checked bmwusa.com, and also called the 800 number. Both said my car was in production. The phone system said estimated completed was September 25th. Neither gave any production codes.

Same here, my car just finished production and says it's waiting to be released to the carrier. I was never able to find any source that gave you those codes. The website will only say production begins, but the 800 number did give a little more detail. I caught it yesterday saying that my car was in the body shop. By the time I checked again today it was done.

A possible answer to the production codes question... I called and the automated system couldn't understand my partial VIN, so I was transferred to a live person. They were able to look it up and tell me that it had started production and the next step would be to go to the body shop. I asked her if that meant it was 'code 150' and she seemed slightly confused but said yes.

So if you talk gibberish until they pick up you might be able to ask the customer service rep!

I asked my CA and he said the next update he'll have would be the car actually arriving to the dealer. I know some people mentioned that they called the company handling the ground transportation but can't remember how they did it.

Great guide but I believe that #11 needs to be updated with the correct Webcam location. The cam is actually off to the east, and looks slightly towards the SW.

This is absolutely correct, meant to post it a month ago when I noticed.

Not a big deal but it helps

I cant help with American Shipping but for any Canadians looking at this thread I tracked mine all the way from Halifax to Calgary using CN Rail's Website. You have to make an account but after that you enter VIN# and it tells you the exact location of the rail car carrying your BMW. After the train ride you can use Hansen's Trucking website and track your car on the transport truck.
