Sytners are offering 25% off all services and MOT's booked online on Friday 15th of November. Tomorrow! Although Black Friday is actually the last Friday of the month but hey, if you're due a service soon then why not save?

Thank you for the heads up! Mine's due a spark plug/air filter/oil service + vehicle check, £560 worth! This offer would bring the cost down below some indy quotes I've had.
The T&C state the service must be carried out before 24 Dec which would mean me doing the service a few weeks before it's actually due though... |

Store employees labeled it "Black Friday" because they were all forced to work and it was crazy busy. It started getting disgusting about six years ago when sales would begin at 6pm on Thanksgiving Thursday (when people had previously been home with their families) and goes all night long. I used to have a retail job and it was horrible. Forced to give up time with family and work all night at the same hourly rate. Having said that...I'm making a list of car parts to buy as soon as Black Friday Sale starts!!! |

It is also driven by the fact that Thursday is a national holiday and every employer also gives off on Friday. I can't picture it being fueled in the UK by people having all that time to shop unless somehow there is a corresponding holiday off from work. The US tradition is on Thursday afternoon to have a big traditional Turkey dinner with stuffing, mash potatoes- a big heavy dinner. Decades ago the NFL also scheduled two American Football games that day because they had a captive TV audience. That contributed to retailers promoting shopping to non-football fans who were mostly women. It started with early Friday morning sales and moved all the way forward to 6pm on Thursday night. They all eat Thanksgiving dinner together on Thursday afternoon then the men unbuckle their trousers in a food coma and watch football on TV while the women leave to go shopping. The Internet is changing things more with online Black Friday sales having started a week ago. I provided all this detail on what I had assumed was an American only holiday/ retail sale phenomenon in hopes that someone from the UK might describe what it's like in the UK, it's origins and drivers. Very curious. Thanks. |

I think it was started by Amazon here? I actually lived in the US for a few years so got used to all the hype there but was surprised when retailers started doing it here. I think it's just an excuse to have a sale, they seem to have sales almost weekly at the moment as they struggle to stay competitive. A few years ago it made the headlines here when stores were offering door buster deals on TV's which basically ended in a minor riot as shoppers punched and trampled each other to buy a cheap TV
Now Black Friday seems to run all month long :
