I'm just curious why you'd want a rear camera? I'm not trying to be an ass but am just curious.
What exactly can you see with a rear camera that you can't see by just turning your head and looking behind you? Am I missing something? I'm always open to learning new things. |

He's going to install them too. By the way, if I'm not mistaken, Modmynav is a Bimmertech Authorized dealer (at least that's what Bimmertech website says). My assumption would be that if they are a dealer for Bimmertech, then that's what I'm getting installed. So, if Bimmertech's install uses BMW OEM parts, then so does modmynav's. Once again, that's my assumption, and I'll let you know after it's done. Last edited by FreddyG; 02-19-2013 at 01:11 PM.. |

Bump.
I've got PDC Front/rear, but contacted BimmerTech and was told I need a new Head Unit as well, what does that mean and why do I need a new head unit? Also is this something I could do by myself, or do I need to take it to the service center to get done? |

You can ask Bimmertech to clarify this.

ModMyNav is our dealer but they also carry their own products - mainly rear/front camera kits. You can ask Kris to tell you what you are getting but if you did not ask for the OEM solution then you will be getting the ModMyNav not BimmerTech kit. On the other hand we should have a very good alternative in a few weeks. We are working on a rear view camera retrofit kit that does not require the PDC (Nav is required) but is integrated with the iDrive like OEM camera. It does not override the screen but uses the native camera mode in the iDrive so you can't really see a difference between our solution and the OEM one except for the dynamic parking lines and obstacle marking. The camera is integrated in the trunk handle like OEM camera and the trunk handle is made of OEM-like material. Finally the price will be much lower than the OEM kit. |

Kris (modmynav) installed a backup camera in our F30 a month or two ago and if it was yours, then Thanks, because it works like OEM. If it's their own, then it works as well as anything out there. It was plug and play and uses the same OEM camera/handle setup as BMW does. One of the nicest things about it is that not one wire was cut/spliced to make it work. I sat there watching him the whole time and can vouch for that too. As far as the camera, it's bright at night in low light situations, has backup lines, and you can turn it on and off while moving forward. I find this Very useful for tailgaters, in that I can turn the camera on to get a license plate number, in case something happens. |

I sat next to Kris the whole time and asked questions and just chatted about cars and stuff. He never missed a beat and was Very Nice and Professional. The camera works just like factory. It goes on when you put it in reverse and has a Nice bright screen even when it's dark out. It also has backup lines, but they don't move like the ones in the OEM PDC setup. You can also turn it on while driving by holding down the menu button for two seconds. When you want to shut it off, press any button on the I-Drive. |

I don't have pdc, but have navigation and mine works Great. Give Kris a call or shoot him an e-mail. He replied Very quickly to mine and answered every question that I had. As stated above, I've got the same setup as you and Kris (Modmynav) took Great care of me. |

So it can be done without having PDC. Nice.
