help with jb+

i just installed my injen intake and currently waiting for my wheels to come in so im a little tight on money right now and im wondering if the JB+ plug and play works like a regular tune in terms of having to get all the mods out of the way first in order to reach the advertised HP gains or would i be able to buy the JB+ now and still get the 35 HP to the wheels as advertised then worry about getting an exhaust and other mods?????

I would just get the jb+ first being that its such a cheap mod. I did it first and you can definitely feel the difference. But I would do a charge pipe right away, especially if you do the jb+. The oem charge pipes fail even on stock cars.

So I shouldn’t get the jb+ until I swap the charge pipe?

How many miles on your car? I did the jb+ first and then the charge pipe right behind it. I had about 25k on my car then. I've read that some oem charge pipes have gone at 30k on a stock car. I drove the car easy just to be safe until I put the charge pipe on. If you could do both together, I would. Check the sponsors forum. There might be some sales going on to get a charge pipe. Good luck

I installed the JB+ at 18,000 miles. I haven't had any charge pipe issues, now have 30,000 miles. I would definitely do the JB+, can't beat it for $200!

The JB+ was meant to work with stock cars, or cars with few mods. If you're doing the usual DP, CP, intake etc mods, the JB4 can get you much more power. Plus it gives you a ton of options for ethanol/methanol/race gas etc.

If money is a concern, pickup a used JB4 off the classifieds. Firmware updates are free from burger. So even an older JB4 can run the newest software with an OBD adapter.

+1 for the Jb+

I got one second hand on here for $125 bucks from verdik and I couldn't be happier with it. It got the power to a level I'll be happy with for quite some time. I'll be putting cash into the suspension for the foreseeable future. I'm an N20, but no problems with my charge pipe @63k.

I'd be shocked if BMW couldn't see that you had even a mild tune like the JB+ installed. It's just a matter of how hard they look. To my knowledge both tuners leave phantom codes that the dealer can see if they really want to know.

That said, unless you're asking for a new motor under warranty, a visual check is all most dealers will do. And the JB4 isn't much more difficult to remove than the JB+.

well i actually have an extended 3rd party warranty i purchased at the dealership but i dont know how much they care about mods. i read that if you remove the jb+ they cant even tell you had it on cause it doesnt appear in the ecu

If they do some digging, they'll be able to find out if you had a tune. Maybe start off with a jb+, then step up to a jb4 when the warranty expires. The jb+ is easier to install/remove when you have to bring the car in for service at the dealer. Burger Tuning has some type of trade in program I believe as long as you bought it new.
Also, I would search for a mod friendly dealer unless you have one already.

already have a local bmw only service shop but not actually linked to bmw. my warranty expires in 100,000 miles so I'll probably never go for the jb4 unless im completely underwhelmed by the jb+

Not sure what this even means. Nothing is 'traced on the ecu'. Lets put something in perspective here. Service departments at dealers aren't playing detective on your car when you bring it in, unless there is some catastrophic engine failure or something. Warranty work is their bread and butter and how they keep their lights on. What real incentive do they have to deny warranty work on a car? You'll just get it towed somewhere else, somewhere cheaper if its really an issue. And anyway, from what I understand, its not logging boost codes i.e. showing you are running higher boost and what are the odds they are looking for that and in what context? Not to mention, it literally takes 5 min or less to install and remove. Its 2 clips and a flathead. Its not worth stressing over. Put the worries in perspective and you will realize you are worrying for nothing. I have brought my past car which had Burger stage 1 and this car in for regular service and not bothered removing it. No one noticed or no one said anything, but regardless, no issues. If there was an issue, I would remove it because why draw attention, but otherwise.. don't trip.

Here is a quick video I did when I first installed JB+ on my 328. Makes a significant difference with power, delivery and low end torque. So smooth. I want to keep it over JB4 because it is so inconspicuous.

why buy a jb+ when you can save a little bit more money and buy a jb4... if you gonna tune anyway you might as well go all out and get the max potential. There is so much added benefits to a jb4 especially if you get the bluetooth adapter and app, so much functionality at your fingertips...

you are still plugging a piggyback tune whether its the jb+ or jb4, you will only throw codes if you slap on a catless downpipe...

But if I don't slap on a catless downpipe and plan to keep everything else stock JB+ probably preforms about the same as jb4 right?

I'm pretty sure the jb+ only offers one map. where as the jb4 has 7 different maps and has logging and read/delete codes so many other capabilities.
