How to loosen/remove the cruise control settings and volume controls?

Hi all,

I went ahead and ordered a MeWant steering wheel cover for my 2020 BMW 430Xi Grand Coupe, but I have decided that I want to pull the wheel off to make installation easier.

I've been watching a lot of YouTube videos on how to remove the steering wheel, but I am nervous about removing the cruise control settings and volume controls (on each side of the steering wheel). In order to remove these controls, so do I have to remove the paddle shifters first? Can I just loosen (not remove) the paddle shifters? Can anyone help?

It shouldn't be too hard to get them off, and back on again once you're done. It's just a couple of t-20 and Phillips head screws holding it all together.
You gotta remove the airbag and then the steering wheel which is just held on with one bolt. Theres one t-20 screw on either side behind the airbag which hold the paddle shifters on. After that, it's just a few more t-20s and Philips head hold the trim pieces to the wheel.

This video should be really helpful. Pretty much shows the whole process from 3:10-4:20.

Hope this helps, good luck!

I have a 6MT, so I don't have paddle shifters in the way, so for me it was just two torx per trim piece and they pop off the front. From there I was able to stitch perfectly and tuck the material under the rear trim pieces without removing the wheel. Can you get a torx between the trim piece and paddle?
