I also upgraded the rear backup lights to these LED's to brighten things up a bit:

Was this an easy replacement? Any coding involved?
Thanks.

Pretty outrageous price. For less than 10% of that I got this one, it works and looks great:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...0?ie=UTF8&th=1

If I ever manage to trash it I won't cry over the cost to replace it.

Did you get the 36 or 41 inch for your car?

The black will take care of the contrast issue.
Thanks for this. Just ordered one. The single piece with the tape already pre installed seems a bit easier.

I got the 41 inch for my F34, and I ended up trimming a half inch off it. The 36 inch would be enough for F30.

Why does BMW Australia pretend that they have no idea about this camera fault? My Alpine White Grand Coupe can’t see a thing at night except the white bumper! BMW Sydney were so surprised that the camera didn’t work that they had the car for three days and then finally told me the reversing camera was designed not to work at night! Yes, I have it in writing. So I now have to buy some electrical tape to fix a design fault on a +$110K car? Should have bought that Hyundai!

I’m all for this. If it is known fault, I should have been told before buying the car in February. So the camera should be replaced with a product that works or the car should be replaced. It’s more than inconvenient, it’s dangerous.

I wonder what their excuse will be in 2018....here in the states the backup cam becomes a requirement and I’m kind of sure they’ll want it to work all the time.

I found that putting the Zeta products black bumper protector on the top of the bumper...like on the X vehicles...solves the issue.

The camera works just fine. If it's going to give you a view of things in back of the car down low and in close where the rear view mirror doesn't work then it pretty much has to include part of the bumper in the view.

Proof that you don't need brains to sell cars.

+1. The problem is known, the fix is known, so fix it already and quit whining.

Hah man that's pretty funny, I discovered that if you turn off your head lights the back up camera lighting will adjust. So it I guess BMW doesn't expect you to drive an Alpine White car a night.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but just wanted to say thanks! Such a silly issue, especially since it’s been happening for years. Added a black vinyl sticker over the camera and left just enough bumper to see where I am when parking.

Can it be the angle of the rearview camera?? It's aiming to low which causes it to see too much of the rear bumper.

It's the lens flare. If you're going to see all of the view above the bumper then the distortion of the image edges caused by lens flare is going to include the bumper in the view. If you aim the camera high enough to eliminate the bumper from the image you'll also eliminate much of what you want to see. The fixes are simple, and one would expect that BMW would have incorporated them into the design of the car, but since they haven't it's not beyond the skill set of most drivers to put a piece of electrical tape over the lens. Most, but apparently not all.

but I don't want to put a rear bumper cover on my car, I think it looks ugly, I just want to tape up the bottom portion of the camera.
