Steering Wheel Vibration >65mph

One new alloy, 4 new balanced tyres and a Hunter 4 wheel alignment hasn't solved the problem so far. Trip to stealers next

How many miles has the car done? Have you ruled out wheel bearings?

Hi Teaston. On 111k now. Had rear bearings replaced a year ago, but there is no drone this time. Feels like it's the front - thinking possibly worn ball joints rather than tie rods, as its no worse when cornering. :

Rang BMW Emergency Service and its now at the dealers to be looked at Tuesday/Wednesday. Got a 320d hire car delivered within the hour. Definitely the way to do it rather than wait 2 weeks for a courtesy car from the dealer. Emergency Service couldn't have been more helpful - 2 days car hire included in policy but they have let me have it for 5 days coz of bank holiday weekend.

Caused by EGR?!

Dealer has diagnosed new EGR (which I had already picked up using Vgate OBD) plus a new intake manifold is required. When I questioned whether this was causing the steering vibration was told it can : but they will check again after fitting.

Not convinced.

Hilarious! Wishful thinking to get you out the door this week.

You haven’t got a spare set of wheels you can try?
I had to do a complete swap on an e46 to find a fault
Turned out to be a dodgy rim

Another issue I had on a previous car that can present vibration symptoms is a sticking brake caliper. The hard you go, the more it heats, then expands and can warp giving the vibration

Think you're right - two seoarate issues. Won't be ready til Monday & dealer is paying for hire car after first 48 hrs was paid for by Emergency Service. It will be going back again if not resolved.

You may be right. Already replaced two alloys in the last year due to potholes. Just swapped from Conti's to Goodyear F1 Assym 3's & they seem more forgiving so hoping no more.

Good shout. I'll ask them to check.

With the brakes though, you can spot it easily yourself, just hold you hand near the discs in turn after pulling up gently. If there is a obvious difference in temps it could be your issue
