BMW N20 Mitsubishi Turbo Upgrade

Hi,

Does anyone know anything about this turbo upgrade?
A friend of mine told me about this but I didn't find anything regarding this upgrade.

Take a look

Yes, it is!

I've just been told that it flows almost 20% more from 0.1964 m^3/s to 0.2347 m^3/s
It is bolt-on but may need extra hardware to maximize the power output.

Just thinking with this turbo we're going to be over the max power the motor can hold. Its going to be crazy.

With all else being equal, a slightly larger turbo such as this should really only be shifting the powerband slightly up in the RPMs. Meaning the motor will still be outputting similar TQ numbers but significantly higher HP. Definitely more stress on the rotating assembly but I don't think the N20/N26 will have any issues at say 375whp/350wtq with a good tune/tank of gas.

Totally agree with you. The major problem is the stress caused by high torque figures and high temperatures. However we need to consider that the tuning is not there yet to max out the stock turbos.

3500 USD is freakin' expensive considering it's a TD04 which is similar to a subaru wry turbo. A friend of mine who owns an impreza wrx replaced its turbo for less than 2000 USD. =/

Don't know, depends on the turbo. Although I don't think you'd want to go much past 300whp on pump gas regardless of the turbo.

My guess is the cost comes from (1) the fact that it is a BMW and (2) the stock turbo is integrated into the exhaust manifold. But $3,500 is still crazy expensive.

Having said that, it is good to see someone working on bigger turbos for this engine. I wonder if anyone has looked at IDCs on the stock turbo to see if new injectors would be required with a bigger turbo.

The stock turbo is already mitusbishi, if they made manifold integrated with turbo that means it is upgraded as well to handle more stress ect. so maybe we will see this turbo on later bmw models

I'm pretty sure the stock exhaust manifold can handle it. We're not talking about a major increase in power here. Whether it is ideal for flow characteristics with a larger turbo would be a different story.

There has been doubt about the power an n20 can handle.

However, it's the transmission which is the limiting factor. And this is from Bmw themselves but the max their 8 AT can handle is 350bhp and 450nm.

Has anyone reported transmission failures so far?
