Do you recall a definitive "aha" moment, as to the root cause of the HPFP failures, because I don't. I think this is an important distinction. Yes, there are markedly less failures. But, I don't think the cause is fully understood. Please correct me if I have this wrong. |

I've read thousands of posts here and elsewhere, and never seen anybody have a failure of this new design. |

Most of the early 335 HPFP problems were due to higher ethanol content in our fuel causing deterioration and a software problem where the low-pressure pump wasn't priming the high-pressure pump sufficiently, causing it to "run dry" and damage itself. The newest pumps for the turbo engines are a different design, and after the software update, whenever you unlock or open a door, you'll hear the LPFP running for several seconds.

So that's what that noise is when I turn the car off? I've always wondered what that electrical noise was after I got out of the car...

So why does it run for several seconds? To clear out the fuel? I've always wondered what that noise from the rear was...

It was more noticable with my E90 335i. I always wondered what that noise was.

It's not the fuel pump when you get out of the car - I'm referring to when you're getting into it, particularly if it's been turned off for a period of time. The LPFP runs for several seconds to prime the HPFP. Sort of a high-pitched/electronic humming sound. That's what it is in my 07 E92.
Regarding noise after you turn the car off, it could be your electric fan spooling down. The LPFP doesn't run after you shut off the ignition.
