Downsizing

I am planning to downsize to 18" from my 19" get more tire to help with ride quality and protect the wheels from damage.

18x8.5 +36
18x9.5 +45

And put on some Michelin Pilot Sport 4s

245/45
265/40

Then in the future possibly drop on ACS springs.

Does anyone see any particular problems with this setup?

245/45R18, 26.7" with a 4.3" sidewall will work the 18x8.5" and provide a lot more cushion, however, while it is just 0.3" > than the oem 18" sidwall thickness of 4", i think it'll look too "beefy". the front will also be 0.4" diameter larger than the rear so it'll have a reverse diameter stagger. it usually it looks nicer if the rear diameter is equal to or greater than the front. i also try to stick with sizes at or near the oem diameter of 26".

personally i'd do 235/45R18 and 265/40R18, both 26.3" diameter

Going 235 is my safe size, I was actually looking at taking advantage of that Costco deal but they're out of stock of 235 and only have 245. I could have matched 245/275 but the MPS4S doesn't come in 275/40 18 only the Super Sports did.

how about 245/40/18 front 265/40/18 rear? 25.7"&26.3"dia., 3.9"&4.2" sidewall... front wont have as much impact protection but it'll probably look better. yeah, can't beat that costco deal for MPS4S with 1 cent install.

Maybe I'll just wait for this deal to come back around and get 235/45. I liked the idea of the tire filling up the wheel well a little so it removes wheel gap while not having to lower the car as much I'd rather not go in the opposite way of losing tire diameter.

Apart from that everything should be good right? I should probably be waiting for a bit more cash before I dive into this anyway.

And maybe in the future Amazon and Discount Tire Direct will start carrying those sizes as they hardly have any at the moment. May end up being competitive then.

i agree, it's a lot of money so wait for what you want, instead of compromising just to get the sale and 1cent install. you can occasionally find free ship to hawaii on amazon but lately it says shipping unavailable to hawaii with large items such as tires. with DTD you'll have to pay about $40/tire shipping, not too bad, but additionally, you'll have to take it to an indy to mount balance w/tpms and it'll be about $30+/tire.

Will Costco there mount non-RFT (or different sizes than OEM) as most Costcos will not?

forgot about this...yes, they will only mount oem sizes on oem wheels. not sure about the runflat. i did however get non-oem size go-flat mounted on loose aftermarket wheels several times.

Meaty, I like it. Would have been nice if 275 was offered in the rear with the MP4S to match up with it on a RWD car.
