Extended Warranty question - worth it?

edit: extended maintenance

My car was making grinding noise when it slow brakes so I brought it to the dealership thinking the warranty would cover any repair work needed.

The dealership inspected it and said the rotors was warped and that it required to be shaved down or possibly replaced. However, the dealership said they can't do any work for me because I am not the original owner of the car and the maintenance warranty doesn't transfer. Since it was the last day of the maintenance, they can offer me a discounted one year extension on the maintenance warranty for $850 ($1,075 is the retail price) and also have the maintenance program changed to my name. I agreed and asked them to throw in the oil service change, replace wiper blade inserts, micro-filter change and general inspection. I asked him what would have been the retail cost of these services and was told $1,100.

Question, was I unknowingly ripped off? or is it a decent deal?

Maintenance isn't transferable on newer cars, but warranty is. I think you mean the former as it is a maintenance item. It must be a 2016 as that was the last year brakes were covered but it was not transferable. Warranty is transferable as it stays with the car.

Yes, I meant maintenance warranty. It's a 2015 335xdrive with 32k miles.

Yeah not sure exactly when the cutoff was for maintenance being transferable but it is right around that time. You may want to confirm the actual date that went into effect it might have been MY2015.

People who sell extended maintenance warranties live in big houses.
They make their money from the people who buy them.

What did you actually get done? New rotors and pads? Resurfaced rotors and new pads?

And what will you need the maintenance plan for in the 12 months?

That'll tell you if you got ripped off or got a good deal.

Stop using the word "warranty"; it's not. It's a prepaid maintenance plan.

Think about it--why would they want you to pre-pay? Because it's a better deal for you?

any maintenance plan is a rip off because you can only replace when the computer tells you,

compare the price to fix by buying the parts yourself vs the price you pay at the dealership and you will understand they are butt F**** you

just came back from the dealership. i ended up getting the 1yr extension on the maintenance program. the service advisor was great and got me a better price of $625. Installed on a new set of rotors/pads and also did the oil change covered under the plan. I think overall i felt like i came out on top.

My local dealership charged $100 to transfer the maintenance into my name. Not sure if that's just the dealer pricing or set by BMW but that's cheaper than and oil change and covers all the maintenance until the factory warranty period is up.

The maintenance period is almost over for that car so don't pay too much.
