Exclamation BMW falling behind

Looks like Audi are taking the "Fastest diesel on the planet Crown", BMW slipping into "Grand turing MODE"

That Audi engine is why BMW will have to release a 335D

It's still a one dimensional Aldi.

330d xDrive 0-62mph in 5.3secs (5.6secs for sDrive)
335d xDrive 0-62mph in 4.7secs est (unfortunately no 335d sDrive I'm given to understand)

I was in the dealers last week talking to a salesman. He was saying he thinks BMW won't release a 335d but a 340d.

Triple turbo!

Triple turbo!
It will still probably be an xDrive due to all that torque and cost the earth. It will probably also be nearly as fast as the M3. The 330d is very competitively priced and most economical.

What I will change to when the time comes is a smaller car which is a hatchback with manic acceleration/performance eg: Merc A45 AMG.

One other big problem - Audi dealers (ALL the ones I've encountered having been an utter disgrace).

I just don't get it, why is that? I found the same thing when I went into the massive audi showroom in Trafford. You could walk round all day without being asked if you needed any help.

So why are they as, if not more popular than BMW now? Does the look and cabin feel really that more appealing now?

I suppose you do pay a premium for BMW over Audi, so price is a factor.

Funny how tastes vary. Interior doesn't seem too bad, but outside the SQ5 seems to lack any design queues or style. Looks like a blob modelled in a wind tunnel.

Well it's good news for BMW sales men as one confirmed the X Drive is seeing Audi massive flowing straight into there showrooms , after they convert to BMW it will be hard to get them back IMHO

Triple turbo!
From the BMW AG website.

The BMW 6cyl 2993cc Diesel in various models:

5 series 535d xDrive or sDrive has 313hp ---- twin turbo
6 series 640d xDrive or sDrive has 313hp ---- twin turbo

5 series 550d xDrive has 381hp (no sDrive) - triple turbo

Nice and confusing.

Can't see a triple turbo 3 Series, would be too close to an M3 in performance. The 335/340d will use the twin turbo 313bhp engine.

Also no Xdrive 5 Series in UK yet but likely to come with this years LCI refresh.

Could it be there are more Audi company/lease drivers? I know on our company car list Audi are a lot more heavily discounted than BMW for some reason.

There are some amazing Audi lease deals available and they all seem to be for business lease only, not available for personal customer. They do seem to push hard at that market.

Agree, NO triple Turbo's in the 3 series, would be far to quick and kill sales for other series cars.

I agree with you. But it's what the salesman thought BMW would do.

So much torque in a compact saloon doesnt make sense.

If it does happen would have to see what kind of performance figures we're talking about.

I watched Chris Harris's review on a M550d, pretty interesting, he was expecting M5 like performance. But being a diesel it just doesnt drive the same way.

I would expect that would be the same if a triple turbo diesel 3 series were to happen.

I also don't see a 335/340d being much faster than the 330d Xdrive 0-60. In the E90 the latest 330d was the same 0-60 as the 335d, its after that point that the differences became apparent.

Of course you need a private road to notice these differences!!!

There certainly won't be a 350d (381hp), but there will be a 335/340d (313hp) in xDrive and possibly in sDrive but at some cost.
