Its nice to know Im not the only one so anal about simply washing the car Though I add a California water blade into the process instead of blowing off the water.

Then again, your car is white, so you can get away with a lot as far as technique Foam cannon is definitely overkill, and I'm a former detailer who is also extremely anal about my black car. How can you be "so anal" and yet consider there to be a whole season where you don't wash your car? As for the hassle of a pressure washer, get a small electric and it becomes very easy. If you're concerned enough to contemplate a foam cannon, surely you can recognize that a pressure washer is going to remove way more dirt prior to running your mitt across the paint vs. a garden hose handle. |

I too am a former detailer and have used blades forever.
Ive used them on my red, white, black and blue cars and the worse that happens is a streak of rubber from a cheaper blade. But then again its all in the technique and just flicking the water off as opposed to dragging it away. But I wouldnt go so far as calling a BMW finish beloved and beautiful. The colors sure are, but the defects and orange peel are an embarrassment to the brand. Ive even emailed them saying as much ... they didnt care :/

I only mean beloved and beautiful in the sense that we're here because we care, and put effort into maintaining the best finish possible. |

But I wont have much time in Oct so its over for me now. (hopefully my 3 coats of powerlock will last!) Unless of course we have a mild winter, then Ill be the idiot out there in the middle of Dec washing his car and throwing on a quick spray sealant.

I need to seal or wax my car next time. Can anyone recommend a good sealant which can be sprayed or applied quickly? I will probably wash, then clay the whole car, re-wash and apply a sealant. This is the first time I'm going to do it myself!

I lived in Rochester NY back when there were metal bumpers with some real thermal mass. I s'pose that I was a little too gung-ho on one occasion...I wound up driving around for a day or so during a particularly cold snap with a wash rag frozen in an inopportune spot.
I went to a car wash one time in the 70's and haven't returned since. A while later, the experience of a friend of mine sealed the deal for me. He had his Volvo detailed at a local place and was so impressed with the results that he suggested that I take my new '84 Audi over there for the same treatment...but there was no way. Over the next couple/few weeks, my friend began to notice that he was getting headaches each time he was in the car, his leather was cracking, the clear plastic in front of his gauges was crazing and the car developed multiple intermittent electrical problems. Turned out the guy working on his interior had mistakenly picked up a spray bottle of muriatic acid (meant for cleaning the driveway) thinking that it was ArmorAll. Ouch. The insurance company totaled his car and I continue to wash my own. |

Chemical Guys HYBRID V7 - High Gloss Spray Sealant. Easy to use and you can use it on the whole car. I use it on top of Chemical Guys Black Light Hybrid Radiant Finish and the gloss and protection is amazing! I also use V7 after every wash to maintain the gloss and protection.

And I do use the water sheeting technique also, so almost no drying to do, except for all the crevasses where I use my surface air dryer.

I was mainly responding to Alan but that's ok. I'd love a foam cannon too, but I was under the impression that they don't work great unless used with a heavy-duty gas pressure washer. The cost of that plus the cannon itself is prohibitive, in my opinion, for the marginal gain achieved during the wash. What's your setup?

I guess I will have to use clay bar to remove the impurities on the car and then just spray? Do you use MF towel or a buffing/polishing machine to apply? Also is there a better and quicker way to remove the impurities on the paint as compared to using clay bars? Thanks!

OP: ONR is a great way of saving water esp during the drought! I don't even use 2 buckets any more. I use one bucket with clean ONR mixture with fresh towels. There are no dirty towels that touch my car. After you use up all of the sides ( folds ) of the towel. Just toss it aside and start with a new one from the ONR bucket. I find this the best way to avoid swirls. Where did you source the ONR? I had to go buy it from a detailer while he was on the job. |

Dann Williams at Big D Mobile Detailing used to be a distributor but he still has a lot of product he can sell. No where else in San Diego locally get it from. Closest is Detailing.com in Irvine. Otherwise there are online sites like Autogeek. I just bought some gallon sizes of ONR, Opti-Clean and Opti Car Wax over the Memorial Day sale.
