Y cable connector
So I went and I bought a new iPhone 4 cable to connect to the armrest USB but again the car doesn't detect the phone. After reading the manual I discovered that it only works with the Y cable " available at my service centre" . What is a Y cable and why it didn't come with car?? Does BMW have to charge extra for this when it's absolutely needed? Did anyone get this upon delivery? I read on some treads that some people may have gotten that. If that's the case, should I request for a free one from the dealer who sold me the car or is it different in Canada. God knows we are used to paying for everything more than other countries and why not this too....

You should not require a y cable for a 2014 model year (at least in the US and with the tech package). Make sure that you are using a certified apple cable. If you require one, it's not a big deal. My wife has to use one for her 2013 Mini S.

We also have a 2010 Mini Cooper Clublman S in the mix~ I took my wife's Y-cable from that vehicle to my 2014 328d MSportand, did the hard wire for the Ipod (former Iphone 3GS w/o a simm card so that I use it for books on tape _ & not loose my place in the story line) to hard wire it in the console to listen (via "other media in the Idrive menu) to the book that I am listening to. For me, it just makes it simpler to switch between my (Bluetooth connected) IPhone5 and the additional media Ipod 3GS with the books on tape. |
