Or you could just kick the arse out of it and go for Ninja throwing stars;

They work very well as there is a longer lower area that enables gear change at any wheel angle, especially with the wheel over 90 degrees.

Encourages me to drive pretty much in 'manual' most of the time.

As moff has said, its very simple.

Disconnect neg battery terminal
Two pins depressed to remove airbag
Two torx to remove paddle attachment inside wheel housing
Unplug 2x blue connectors

Pop on new shifters.

The subtle difference with mine is I used M4 paddles and swapped the housing with the Pedal Haus set as the silver fairing/paddles on the back of the standard paddles is different. The micro switch housing is the same though.

So am i right in thinking that your batmobile style shifters are standard M4 paddles ?

Look way better than M3 ones then

Not quite mate. Purchased a set of standard M3/M4 paddles, got the Pedal Haus retro fit and swapped the standard complete paddles for the modified Bat wings on the M3/4 housing.

Excellent work there yet again.

Just watched the instructional video and it got me thinking - could you not siimoly cut out the middleman and put the ninja throwing Death Star style paddles directly onto your current bog standard 3 series shifter box thingy Darth Helmut

It may be possible but the housing that the micro switch mechanism attached to is sealed on to the standard paddles (silver back plate) and the thin black plastic plate that the shifter fits on to is also a part of the unit. On the M3/4 unit, it all disassembles as you saw in my vid.

I think if you were adventurous, you could do it but I think the chance of cocking it up and not being able to reverse it is great.

Another great plan down the pan.

M3/4 paddle stripped back to show black housing plate

Standard paddle with black plate integrated in to the shifter housing

I am alone in having multi paused this vid to see if I can read the subliminal messaging on the back of Darth Helmut's hand?

It might be a ?placebo? but I find the switch action of the F80 paddles much nicer than the stock paddles.

You should only be able to read it if you are, like Darth, a homicidal, cow murdering, goat fondling buffoon.

Or you live in Somerset?

You are not alone !

As many have said they have a more positive click action and having played with the paddles on an M car many a time can confirm this as well.

TBH hadn’t noticed that until you mentioned it.

Personally was more surprised at how normal he sounded.

Having watched again can assure it’s nothing more sinister than “ wash me”. - just a quick reminder to cleanse after pooing or inappropriate self touching etc.

I have the M3/4 paddles and I find them less 'clicky' that the stock ones?

Not sure why that is the case, as people on here are saying the shift action is more positive?

I bought a set of M3/4 paddles over a year ago and never got round to fitting them. This thread was a call to action.

I watched some YT vids but getting the airbag out was a pain because the tool entry points in the rear of the steering wheel on my 2012 F31 aren't the same : two easily identifiable holes rather than two slits and the process is different. Once I finally got the airbag out and could see the circlips I'd be able to do it in seconds next time rather than about 20 minutes.

The stock paddles are easy to remove (T20 bit, but some fiddly wiring) and the M paddles are a straight replacement, even though my dealer said they are not compatible when I bought them.

The M paddles are much nicer to use : there's a more pronounced pad for fingertips, and the action is smoother rather than click-clack in the originals.

The paddles are also slightly longer on the lower part.

A good mod, and I probably won't now upgrade to larger paddles. These feel good.
