Hands free smart boot/trunk opener in UK?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Am really psyched about collecting my 330d M-Sport next week. Is going to be my first BMW and I have always wanted to own one since I was a lad. Have been loving reading these threads so thanks to everyone on here.

Silly question probably but can anyone confirm if we have the smart hands free boot opener in the UK? I will have comfort access on my car so I asked the dealer to demo it for me but he said it was only available on the touring version....this sounds wrong to me, especially as it is shown on the UK BMW website as an available function.

Can any F30 owners confirm the dealer is wrong?! Thanks.

Hi Mike, welcome, bet you can't wait!! A nice present to help beat the post-Christmas blues anyway!

Yes, you get the hands-free boot opening with Comfort Access on the F30 (I have it). It works really well. The trick is to kick your foot under the bumper and also angle it up towards the underside of the car (but try not to hit anything!). If it's too flat or too low, it often won't work; the sensor is quite high up under the car I think!

I've never had to have my foot high, nor angle it upward. I just place it underneath the middle of the bumper a few inches off the ground in a slow-motion kicking motion, and pull it back out.

As long as you're in the middle of the trunk, and not too fast, it'll work.

Thanks to both of you - excellent news because it sounds like a really useful feature. Am going to try it during the handover next week to see the dealers face when the boot pops open!

First, congratulations on the new car! Regarding the hands free trunk, well, it's nice when it works. I found a trick that works a bit better than what's mentioned in the BMW manual and it is as follows:

Move your foot across the underside of the trunk right to left and that will activate the lift gate. I am attaching a link to a video that illustrates this motion.

Hope that helps.

P.S. Video should start at 0:56 seconds. Plus, I did not know how to embed the video here otherwise I would have done so.

Ok thanks for the vid. Have read lots about the slow kick in the centre but never about the long swoosh of the foot from side to side! It certainly worked on the ford in the video so will give it a try.

Actually, I've been using this on the F30 ever since I saw this, basically when the regular way doesn't work. One or the other will open the boot.

Doesn't work for me that way as I said; I have to raise my foot quite a bit for it to register. YMMV

The foot sweep method is new to me - I'll have to give that a try.

Congrats on the car 330D rocks

F31 has a powered tailgate. F30 just unlocks but boot sprung to open automatically anyways. That is probably what salesman was confused about. Enjoy!!

Congrats! In the UK, you have to kick on the left side!
