Regarding the car putting itself into P when reversing with the door open - you have to reverse really slow. But once you try putting it back in drive, it won't no matter what.

One cool thing I noticed. I started the car backed up and had to get something from the trunk. At this point I think I heard the tailpipe actuator engage. So when you start the car both exhausts are open. Then they close and function normally after idling a bit.

This has been true for bimmers for many years - my 2001 X5 is this way. The ignition has to be "on" for the garage opener to be functional, I guess just like you have to turn on the ignition before the radio/audio will work.

Back on track with something "cool" - when the engine is shut down but the ignition is still on, the radio/audio continues to play, as expected. However, remotely locking the doors with the key fob turns off the ignition and thus also turns off the radio/audio. Coming from the dinosaur-age E46/E53, which actually needs a key in a slot, this was quite a revelation. True, one can also turn off the ignition by pressing the SS button again.

Whew, glad I wasn't the only one.

This is definitely a cool feature and something I admit I probably never would have bothered to figure out on my own. Lucky for me it was one on the things my CA showed me when I took delivery.

One thing it it possible to do is set all your radio presets as a single button, so when I hit the "1" button, I can then scroll through the radio per-sets with the idrive controller. This and iPhone integration were set up by my CA at delivery. With the wheel / heads up feature, it is probably redundant, but it was cool to have while getting used to the car.

Another feature is the tow feature. God forbid you ever need to use it, but if you need a rear tow to get the car out of the woods or something after a crash, you carefully knock out / remove the little square in the rightvrear bumper and screw in the eyelit that is in the trunk on the right side with the tools.

Yeah, you can't program a button to a time. but what you can do is program the precondition screen to a button. i have the precondition screen set as my 8. so when i know its gonna be a hot one, i tap 8 and then enter. also comes in handy for short stops inside to pick up mail or dinner or drycleaning. park car, tap 8, then select the "keep fan running" option at the bottom (only works if car is still "ON")

took me three months of moping about not being able to program a button for this before i figured out this is how you have to do it.

Some may already know this, after you pull the sunroof button to open the roof it stops at an opening. You can open it about another 3-4" if you pull the button manually, the roof opens up fully.

I don't know if anyone else has already mentioned this but...

With comfort access, holding my finger on the ridge part of the door handle to lock the car and keeping it there for a few seconds will automatically fold the door mirrors in.

That was a great accidental discovery

That's the big hole in the roof with a sliding glass that the Germans call Schiebedach. The real term is sunroof, but in some forums it's called moon roof - I guess it's a funny name for it and I got just used calling it that way.

So moonroof = sunroof? That makes no sense. Since a sunroof is something you open when it's sunny, and is heavily tinted to protect you from the sun, a moonroof is ... what, something you open at night for no benefit?

And that's the reason why it's funny. And they say Germans have no humor ;-).

And also: When it's open, you can see the moon. Provided there is no significant cloud coverage and the time is right.

That's no moon! That's a Space... Never mind, wrong movie.

Yeah, it's pretty cool. Had it on the e90 and wouldn't want to miss it on the f30 either.

A sunroof was the early incarnation of a moonroof. The sunroof was just a painted panel that opened and was the same color as the car. A moonroof is a glass panel that opens.
