It's a Joke John, but like I saud above, if you really did put it all down on paper and applied it to something else, how would it really reaad and if a Lawyer supported it, well I wouldn't want to keep that lawyer on retainer.. LOL

I paid for the majority of the expenses with my now wife chipping in on things where she could. We went over the budget we had set and I can say I'm just making a guess on how much was spent. I'm actually kind of scared to know the actual number. I'm pretty sure my wife has all the numbers in her spreadsheet. But I can say we're not in debt and all of it was paid off when the bills were due.

I did subscribe to the notion of keep it simple and cheap....it's all about us not everyone else, etc, etc. Well, a lot of that went out the window when this was a big deal for both families; with my wife's family flying in from overseas to attend. Also my wife and I went through something many people don't have to deal with before they got married. I had a major health situation where it was touch and go on whether I would even be alive to be at my wedding. When you're faced with death like I have, it really changes your perspective on things.

In hindsight there were some things I would probably not spent money on or diverted the funds for to something else, but I don't regret the overall amount we spent.

+1

My fiancee and I will be spending around $10k cash. No loans from anyone.

We plan to invest more into our marriage than our wedding because typically the marriage is supposed to last longer.

My best friend told me that his mother warned him of that.

"Be careful of these women - they think all about the wedding, but it's really about the marriage"

Yup, I told the wife I can't afford a divorce, we would move to seperate ends of the house or I'll have a really green patch of lawn in the backyard, she just laughs everytime I say it.

Also I have had my fare share of friends that nerver knew the woman they married, actually none of us do, until we meet them in divorce court when you really get right down to it.

Me neither. It was very stressful for me to satisfy my in-laws. Heck , I even had a wedding planner for < $14k wedding.

If you think wedding is expensive, you do not want to hear about divorce.

Also I'm not trying to show off how much I spent. It is definitely money that could have gone elsewhere.

I do know plenty of people who love to show how much they spent because apparently it makes them look cool.

End of the day my best present was to enjoy a day with people I wanted to spend time with.

Already "heard" about divorce. Too many times...lesson learned by the example of others. No need for further convincing.

For those that say "Meet the right girl, you'll pay" or what you just said above, you must understand there is a different type of person out there (like me) who really won't...seriously.

I have had the grand wedding plan on a table once, and I can only speak for myself when I say, that if I were to do wedding again, I would do bigger than we did (4people, paper work only), but not the way you guys have done. I would not enjoy the whole circus, but I think a ceremony on a beach could be doable stretch for me. Oh well, never gona happen.

Amen. I'm not sure if my SO thinks I'm joking, but we just attended her brothers wedding on Friday. Everyone then asks us when we were getting married, she says not for a long time, and I usually say never.

I'm beginning to think that she feels I'm joking. Sucks for her. It's not that I don't love her, its just that I don't love signing documents with fine print.
