Cleaning Salt from Carpet?
Hey guys, I still have leftover salt in my carpeting from winter. Any advice on how to remove it?

If you don't have a carpet cleaner like this (highly recommended):
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 you can soak the carpet with a water/carpet shampoo mix and suck it dry with a wet/dry shop vac. Then put in WeatherTech liners so you won't have to repeat yearly. |

I have the same issue; watched a bunch of youtube vids and a good gentle vacuum + 50/50 vinegar and water in a spray bottle to the affected areas, and then dab the excess water. Repeat until satisfied apparently. Will be trying this weekend so ill come back w an update.

+1 on the 50/50 water/vinegar mix. It works. You have to let it soak for a few minutes to break down the salt, then you can use a brush to loosen the salt and vacuum it up. Add a bit of lemon if you don't want to get a strong vinegar smell in the car after, or you can shampoo the carpet after you clean up the salt residue.

Strong vacuum first then spray lightly with a 5% solution of vinegar with a squirt of dawn soap. Let it set for about 10 mins. Vacuum again and repeat...its also best to do this when its warm outside.
