Xdrive axle shaft popping out
Hey everyone I’ve been reading and reading about this issue but cannot find a culprit. Recently. I bought lowering springs for my non adaptive suspension f32 xdrive. Well as you know the suspension was to low and pull the oem axle shaft out of socket and tore the boot apart at the inner boot. This happened on the driver side front, the bearing housing remained in the diff and the rest was attarched to the hub. I removed all suspension and I stalled all oem suspension, I installed an aftermarket axle shaft from import direct(Oreillys). I couldn’t measure them since the old one was busted but when I was driving I could feel the new axle shaft popping in and out of socket, I’d have to pull over and turn the steering wheel lock to lock to get it in the housing and it’s still barley in the housing.
My question is even with stock suspension what could be causing this issue, no alignments were performed during this so my alignment is correct for stock suspension. When the car is on the ground I can feel the tripod bearing half way out of the housing. On bumps it is slipping out. Is it possible the aftermarket axle shaft is too short? Could old strut cause this? Could camber adjustable control arms fix this? Can I cut and extend the axle shaft with a steel sleeve? I’m at a loss right now and confused as to why with even stock setup it is not sitting in the housing properly. I’m very mechanically inclined so please offer ideas or experience. |
