Question Rear sunshade

How well does the rear power sunshade work? Is it worth it? I don't see any discussion of it, so I assume it is not a popular option?

Thanks,

John

I don't have it but I've looked into this and it sounds like it works well for a while, but that eventually it can warp in the sun shine and stop functioning. Its 500 though, and it would cost 300 just for a set of the ones that aren't automatic, so could still be worth it.

Ive had it in 3 BMW's and never had any issue with it, including warping. I really like it...it is great at night for dimming headlights behind you, especially when you have a taller truck behind you.

How's this better than tinting windows? I considered it as it's nifty, but don't really see a use for it after I tint the car. please let me know if I'm ignorant

I have it on my F30 and I had it on a 97 528i E46. Haven't had a problem with either and they work well, both in raising and lowering and at reducing direct sunlight into the car. If you have kids in the car this is a must have item.

I hope that works.

I'd get it just because i don't trust the tint shop not to mess up the car, plus you can take it off whenever you want.

I have both side an rear curtains an I love them! I put tints on my car and they are 3M metallic, but sun still feels a little hot, with the sunshade it feels more fresh and darkens the interior more. I really like it?

Given you too are in Hotter than Hell, TX I'll take that endorsement....and add it to my order.

Thing is, if you want to stay with legal tints, you cannot have too much tint in some states. My state, for example, legal tint is either 30% or 35% (I forgot which it was), which is not that much tint at all. With these blinds, it looks as if it is tinted a lot more, but it's legal to have plus it keeps more sun and heat out (the difference is truly noticeable for me).

Personally, I love my shades. I had them on the side windows only in my X5 but this with the rear sunshade is even better

Thanks, everyone. I think I will splurge on this option.

Oh I forget about the laws elsewhere. I can do anything on back windows...ust can't go over like 20% on front sides.

I have the factory manual side shades and power rear shades on my e90 328. They work great especially for protecting my toddler son in his rear facing car seat. It's an expensive option and next time I'll consider a good tint instead. The drawback is they shades don't cover 100% of the windows. There's a gap on the sides. I don't worry about the rear shade warping.

At first when I saw this option I thought it was dumb to pay for. Then my friend got a new car last week and had one (different brand of car, but same idea) and it was pretty nice. Now I wish I had sprung for it.

Here's the read shade from my F30 328i. It works really well and moves quicker than I thought it would.

Are these shades automatic? Like is there a button to raise + lower (if you purchase post car purchase)? Or are they manual?

The rear shade is electric, there is a button on the driver door near the window controls.

The back door shades (there are 4 of them) are manual.

Are you able to purchase this post delivery (and still have it automatic). I.e. is the button there and the lectric harness there, you just need to buy the shade?

Looks like the manual shades are form fitted...and the automatics are not?

Here's the manual from the BMW site:
