Quad tips on factory exhaust (F32)

Setup - I really didn't want to delve into performance mods on this car yet, so I wasn't ready to pull the trigger on a proper exhaust system, but good god did those factory tips need to go. Car looked like a sweet 16 present haha.

Solution - Buy an M-Performance rep with quad openings and find some tips that look good, right.. right? WTF!?!? Battery box totally blocks the rear opening on the passenger side exhaust outlet. Nothing off the shelf or online will fit with this diffuser, requires a totally custom fab job to sneak the exhaust around that corner and out the diffuser opening.

Challenge accepted:

Tubes fit and tacked up for final mockup -

Final product - Sleeved the exhaust tubing (2.5") with 3" aluminum similar to carbon tips. Hand brushed finish

Cost me about $100 in metal stock and a couple days fabrication time, but I love the fit and style. Bonus, I can totally use these on any future exhaust system that exits through the stock locations.

I'll try to take some additional photos in the daylight when I get a chance to clean the car up this weekend. BTW.. all cuts, grinding and welding took place in my tiny one car garage in a super uppity apartment community, how I avoided confrontation is beyond me. I thought I'd get booted within the first 10 minutes haha!

Nice! Im thinking of doing something similar but having the quads more to the center like the f80.

Nice! Looking forward to more pics on exactly how you modified the diffuser. I would love to do this, but don't want anything that couldn't be reverted back to stock at some point.

No modifications to the diffuser required. There are 2 "M-Performance" styles available in the rep world:

1. Factory M-Performance style, just like the one available from the dealer.

2. Quad opening M-Performance style.

I purchased mine from eBay seller "euroautoparts" - http://www.ebay.com/itm/272479441731...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Fitment is great, only fault is the mesh inserts are fairly flimsy, but totally serviceable. Usually I like to leave parts like this out in the sun for an hour or so to get them malleable for install (helps with alignment after sitting on shelf for however long from across the world), but this fit right out of the box. In fairness, I'm in Florida so ambient is generally 90 deg.

Thanks for the update! Might be doing this if I don't go for an all out exhaust swap!

Hey, i just ordered a quad diffuser for my f30. Can you provide info on the stock pipe diameter? (so i know what tips to buy) Also, whats the diameter on those tips?

I like the size, not too big nor small

Stock exhaust aft of the muffler is ~2.5 inch tube. I actually never measured it, but the 2.5 inch tube I used for my tips slid over the factory exhaust pretty snug.

The total OD of the tips is actually 3 inch, I sleeved the 2.5" tube with 0.125" wall 3 inch tube.

**Double TRIPLE check the exhaust openings on the quad diffuser you purchased for clearance before you buy a set of tips. I know the 335i has slightly different exit points, but you can't be too careful haha. Good luck!

Thanks! I'll wait for the diffuser and then ill buy the tips. You went for the staggered look right ? Instead of the same distance tips? No regrets?

Yea the offset look follows the contours of the rear body much better. Benefit of doing it myself was being able to control that offset as well to perfectly match the body line. I'll grab a quick measurement from tip-end to tip-end so you can have something to reference when looking for a prefab set.

Swapped from the stock muffler to the MPE and welded on the tips. Finished it off with some header wrap since everything passes so close to the battery box. Probably definitely overkill, but I like the look.

That looks great! I am looking to do a muffler delete. However, I am having trouble finding out the inlet size for my stock 435i exhaust tips. Can you help me out with that? Once I figure out the size, I can order the m performance carbon fiber tips.

Instant boner!!

Holy cow I just stumbled across this, this is the exact setup I'm looking for.(100 percent) I was looking to keep the OE stock tips.. I have been searching for 6 months for a setup just like this, I also have a quad diffuser that just recently installed and looking to get the exhaust dialed in... I would have never got the quad diffuser and then painted it knowing that block was going to cock block my exhaust set up.. ..........you did a great job man wow jealous... are you able to duplicate a set of tips?? I'm also located in Florida and I would be interested in purchasing a set!!

NICE JOB !! Man, I wish I could do that stuff.... here is what I have to do... pay money....

I have been looking into these:
https://www.ebay.ca/itm/1-Pair-Inlet...53.m1438.l2649

and this carbon fiber diffuser:
https://www.ebay.ca/itm/2015-BMW-F32...53.m1438.l2649

My question is, if I cut the tips off the stock exhaust, do you think the quad tips would attach and line up ? probably not. So I would then have to go to a muffler shop and bend them to fit. I think....

Thoughts?

I think the battery box will get in the way with those quad tips you are looking at and to get around that you or muffler shop would have to fabricate something similar to what OP did to make it work.

My plan is to buy individual tips and have the shop fabricate something similar for me.

Yeah I had a lot of issues with this as well. Finally found a set of tips and a good muffler shop.
