Differences between '12, '13, '14, etc. 335i?

What were the changes between the F30 years for the 335i?

Basically want to know of any major problems and or if more nice luxury features were added from '12 onwards?

Right now i'm eyeing a beautiful red '13 335i nearly fully loaded 6 speed and wondering if I should find a '14 based on newer features coming.

Thanks - I tried searching and came up empty handed on this.

-Jay

I believe the newer iDrive debuted in the mid 2013 production cycle. Something to consider.

How do I find out if the '13 i'm looking at has the newer iDrive? The dealer is 5 hours away and would need to ask them to look for me.

Here's a picture they provided me of the knob:

Edit: This looks like the older iDrive knob and not the newer version.. Sad day.. Guess i'll have to pass on this car, this kind of stuff is a big deal to me.

The new iDrive (NBT) debuted with the '14 F30's. I have a late '13 (April) build and it has the older (CIC) iDrive.

Any real advantages that we know of on the touchpad iDrive vs the old? Is it any faster CPUwise? Is it even a real functional difference or it only a touchpad added to the old CIC iDrive?

There seem to be quite a few:

http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/att...6&d=1346949840

for ex on page 8:
Improved processing speeds and memory capacities deliver:
- Quicker system start up (max. 20 seconds).
- Faster route calculation.
- Smoother page transitions.
- Higher storage capacity music collection.

Thanks, exactly what I was looking for.. Hmmm, guess I may have to stick it out and wait for a used '14 then!

I noticed the '15 M Sport 335i has fog lights! Looks great.. Never saw this on a 12/13/14 model.

Something about active sound being piped into the cabin in the '14 models, I think.

This only exists on M models. On the M3/M4 this is barely done. Mostly done on M5 and M6.

I can't find anything official, but members here have been able to code it out of their cars and have confirmed it exists.

Launch control was a difference in '14 as well..

So it seems two things that could potentially be a deal breaker.. newer iDrive and LC.. Hmmm.

For NA market, NBT iDrive began with 7/2013 production (MY14).

For NA builds, you are correct. The rest of the planet got NBT beginning either 11/2012 or 12/2012 production.

7/2013 began the touch controller for all regions (also supposed Android compatibility...which is somewhat poor....still).

True for most NA cars without MSport brakes.

Adding foglights deleted the aux engine cooler that was behind the LH lower grill.

Do you prefer fog lights or extra engine cooling?

BMW does continuous and constant production changes to improve their vehicles (some are actually cost saving changes).

There are WAY too many changes to list here between a MY12 and MY14 (or MY15) cars. Visit www.realoem.com if you want to learn more....

I can tell you my MY14 feels and drives like a different car to the MY13 I had. They were nearly identically spec'd cars and the MY14 is WAY better IMO.

LC is codable on previous years.
I have it on my car, pretty neat option.

I bought a '13 6-speed manual..

Is there launch control on a manual available? And how do you go about coding the feature? I ordered a ENET cable and have my token, is this doable yourself or have to go to BMW?

Look on the Coding section of the forum for the F30 cheatsheet (or download the BMW Coding Database) and look up for the codes.

You can do it yourself, but before you start coding, read the instructions and the guides available in the coding section.
Pretty easy, but also pretty easy to mess things up.

As for availability on a manual, not sure since this feature uses the torque converter stall, which obviously you don't have on a manual...
