Those with automatics, try this...
So when I start up my car in the morning, I always put it in manual mode (move the stick over to the left). I don't warm it up. I just let it idle forward out of my parking space... maybe a little bit of gas. But then, at about 2.5k RPM, the car shifts to 2nd gear. It's in fully manual mode but it automatically does this. This only seems to happen in the morning on cold starts.
Has anyone else experienced this? I read somewhere that the Automatics in the F30 "learns" your patterns and applies it to the driving. Could it be that it's shifting for me in manual mode? I also know that the car will shift for you when you red line it... even in fully manual mode. Obviously, it's to protect the engine. But could it be that it's protecting the cold engine from revving too high? |

To the left is actually sport automatic if the car shows s1 on your dash. Until you paddle shift or push lever down the car will shift for you but in a more aggressive sport model.

I always use "sport" mode, I engage it as soon as I start my engine. BUT, with DH pkg I have sport mode set up so that I have the firmer sport steering along with firmer sport suspension, but my trans is in "comfort" mode. I didn't know about those added options with the M adaptive and VSS options. BMW did a poor job of explaining it. But I'm glad I have it as I use the optional added settings all the time. |

I have started using the manual mode when the car is cold and keep the rpms between 2200 to 2800 rpm for the first few minutes. I have noticed the car warms up much quicker that way and I don't have to literally wait 10 minutes to start going WOT.
