Connected Drive Map Udate
After getting caught in an horrendous traffic jam caused by 3 way lights on the A47 between Guiyhurn and Thorney on the A47 Boxing Day I decided to bite the bullet and purchase the map update deal on Connected Drive.
How can I check in the car that I now have the latest version. Janet and John answers only please

In the navigation settings there will be a 'version' option. When selected it should show the version of maps you have. I have just loaded on version 2019-4. (That's the latest for me).

I don't think a new map would have helped avoid the jam, do you mean a new subscription to RTTI/connected drive? If so you can tell by the highlighted tell tale lines on the sat nav map (once the sub ends so do they) also online connected widgets are available again on split screen (weather etc...)

Having the online widgets back and the green/amber/red lines on the map shows you've the latest stuff it should update on the fly as well over air, the divert can be set to auto or manual in the idrive nav options.

If you have a connected account you can buy the RTTI service directly from the car. Just go the BMW connected drive, look for connected services or apps. It should display the services you have and those which you can activate.
Alternatively log on BMW connected on the computer via their website |

Not anymore as getting to the ConnectedDrive shop from the car has been stopped by BMW. I was on the phone to them today and was told it`s been stopped in every BMW, although i heard earlier this week new cars were supposed to have it still.

I look at it this way; I wouldn’t buy a road map every year so I don’t buy map updates yearly.
I buy during the Black Friday discount period every few years. I can see where map data surveys and digitisation are an ongoing cost, but the cost of RTTI data seems silly once the equipment is in place. (Would be happy to be corrected on that assumption). |

RTTI does help avoid those dreaded pileups etc. I only subscribed to it AFTER updating my maps to 2020-1 from a third party. Was a lot less expensive.
Note: 2019-1 may be the current version for your region. I'm in the States. |

i updated my map from 2016 version to 2020! It was a lengthy process which took 20 min for download on fibre broadband and 1o minutes extraction to usb stivk(19 GB) snd then 30 minutes taken updating the car via usb. It is simple enough snd if your maps are old like mine were i don't see the cons.
Sorry about the traffic pile up. I think using Google maps is the only way to avoid that. |

OK, now this is getting stupid,100% download complete on blue bar on download manager but got message download error but memory downloads so far will be saved. Went to Select USB to finish off and got message not enough space as I will need 35.35 GB !!!!
Do I erase it all and start again ? Or,is it worth trying the stick in the car ?

Is it necessary to change the format of the USB stick to FAT32,as lethbridge suggests,as as I am struggling with this as well ?
