Anyone with back and or knee / hip issues with a 3 GT?

Repost from another section was told I'd have better luck here. New to this section of the forum as I'm currently in an M235.

Looking for something for dad most important is ease of entry and egress along with comfort. Was thinking X1 but then saw the 335 GT that looks like a beast. Need to drive it but seems super versatile, sits up higher but not too high which is good. Anyone with some health issues as described that has logged some serious seat time in the car? Will do a test drive obvs but only so much you can learn in a single day in the car. Have read some grumbling about seat comfort or lack thereof in the X1.

I've got the 335d GT and my wife had an X1 x-line. I've used both on 400+ mile round trips and the GT is way better, incredibly comfortable (I'm ancient with a bad back). I've got Sport seats in the GT so they're more supportive that the standard seats, but the X1 seats are shorter and don't have the extending bolster. X1 is definitely easier to get in and out of though. Try them out!!

Thanks for the input! Will do a full day test drive for dad for each and it's easy to see which one is easier for him to get in and out of. Extended seat time though is tougher to gauge, so appreciate the responses. Mind if I ask how big you are? Not sure the sport seats would be great for him if super bolstered. Not super concerned with him being held firmly in place while tracking the car or anything like that, more just general comfort around town and on the highway. That said I've driven things where sport seats were I fact more comfortable than the standard.

I'm 6 feet, 240 pounds. No problems with seat comfort either going around the block or driving eight hours straight, and that's with the base model seat. My seat will go back at least three inches past where it's best for me, so I can see it as no issue for most NBA players.

Did you choose the standard non sport seat for comfort after trying both?

I didn't try both. The standard seat was fine so I went with it.

Ive had my 320i GT sport xdrive for 8 months, cant say i have done that many miles but being 6ft4 and 18 stone with a reconstructed knee and 2 slipped discs this car is easy to get and out of and very supportive on long journeys. The leg room is great and with a 4 month old baby i can get all the gear in the car and the rear facing baby seat behind my seat with room to spare.

Thanks that helps. Dad also drags his grand kids around (3.5 and 1) so I've got kid issues in addition to old guy stuff to deal with. It's basically down to the GT or the new X1, he's getting each for 24 hours and then we'll pick. I'm back and forth on preference really whatever is most comfortable for him.

X1's back seat is not a pleasant place to be for anything longer than couple of hours. From first-hand experience. Will be ok for kids though.

Yeah the only people riding back there ever would be in car seats or perhaps my mother occasionally for a short trip out to dinner. Otherwise it's pretty much grown ups in front kids in back. Heard the front seats in the X1 may not be great either?

6ft and just under 15 stone. Getting in and out isn't a problem in the GT, just easier in the X1 as you move across into the seat instead of down. Seat comfort in the GT MSport is fantastic. Bolsters aren't excessive so not an issue for me. Also, due to massive rear legroom, I can have a straight arm, stright leg driving position, so lots of gap between seat and steering wheel when getting in and out.

Thanks for the insight. Dad is a bit shorter than you, but as you pointed out I am most concerned with going "straight across" instead of up or down to get in. Think he's leaning towards the X1 after seeing a few over the weekend but we will see.

Make sure he drives both. The amount of time spent behind the wheel far exceeds the amount of time getting in and out of the car. I wouldn't sacrifice the GT driving experience for ease of entry and exit. If he actually enjoys driving the X1 more than the GT that's a different story.

Ordinarily I would agree with you but we got rid of his Macan (I'd argue better than either BMW we are looking at) bc he couldn't get in and out of it. So yeah you have a valid point but not if he can't get in the car in the first place.
