Replica Front M-Sport Bumper Fitment Issue
Hey all,
So I had a replica front m-sport bumper (GoodGo brand) installed on my car and have small gaps between the brake duct and lower center mesh grill (see below). Is everyone getting this with their replica bumpers or is it something that can be fixed with some adjustment? Maybe I should try using the OEM mesh+brake ducts with the bumper? Shop claims it's the bumper mold itself but people here seem to have claimed perfect fitment with these replica bumpers; I believe this is the same brand that Selma Auto Restyle uses. Thanks. |

I bought a used OEM bumper and fitted no problem , I would always advise to get OEM even from breakers .
Yea get OEM grills and mess see if they fit perfectly but being aftermarket you will still see some gaps I reckon |

Yup these gaps are pretty common with the replica bumper. I've seen it plenty of times.
Gets yourself an oem bumper mesh, it should sort itself off unless the opening on your bumper is seriously out of shape.

Wish I would have known beforehand. I kept hearing how the selma front bumper had perfect fitment, with the added benefit of no side reflectors. I think I remember multiple people saying 100% perfect fitment and that OEM is a waste of money... sigh. Guess some people just have lower standards to what "perfect" is.

I would have, but these comments made me think it was unnecessary:

To have gone oem (and new parts, not used) it was have cost easily triple the price than the aftermarket bumper. I just helped my buddy install his bumper and he now has a similar hiccup with the front grill as well. As I said go to an oem grill and the brake ducts should flip right in. Otherwise bumper alignment and connection points are spot on with both our bumpers.

However, other things to take into consideration. When mass producing something, there's always margin of error. This is true even for OEM. Ask a body shop that does insurance work who use both OEM and aftermarket parts, they'll tell you that the same kinds of imperfections you will find in OEM as well as aftermarket. I think that's why, most people opt for aftermarket since you can spend a fraction of the cost. Lastly, the skill of the shop does play a HUGE role as well. This is a factor that is most commonly overlooked. Most shops aren't going to be "anally perfect" either so as long as they got everything on right, minor things here and there they won't mess with. However, as a customer, you can set proper expectations and many of these small alignment issues can be addressed during install. |

1. The gap is pretty identical on both sides. 2. If the bumper itself is misshapen, how does the center grill mesh fit perfectly? I feel it's down to adjusting the brake ducts by pushing them inwards from the top, but it seems I would need to take the bumper off and adjust some screws/rivets as they won't budge as-is. I dropped by the dealership to pick up a new front license plate bracket last weekend and found another f30 with the m-sport bumper there. Even that bumper actually had a small gap between the grill and brake ducts, albeit it's one you would only notice looking from the side of the bumper. |

Honestly, it's all mental. I think if I were to ask myself "does it actually affect the functionality" I think the answer would be no, and eventually I would get over it (I am one of those anal perfectionists myself), but I still have to be realistic at the end of the day. I'm sure seeing that one car on the dealership lot tweaked your perspective a bit didn't it? :P

Found a OEM one local. Did you have to do anything to get yours to fit or did it just bolt in where the old one was?

If you look at the OEM grills there are 2 different iterations of it across the different years. On some models the grill is a straight piece that runs down vertically and you'll find a very thin gap between it and the brake ducts. This is how it comes from the factory as you have seen. You can have your body shop try and move the brake ducts as close as possible to the front grill and you may be able to tighten the gap. The other version of the OEM grill actually has an extension or lip running vertically to eliminate the gap. This lip also wraps around the brake duct. My bumper had the gaps and I bought the OEM grill with lip to eliminate them. I should have my car back this week. I should have taken a photo of the grill, the lip/ extension was new to me as well.

Ok here you have it - Taiwan made bumper. Threw away the replica center grill and installed an oem one with lip.

OP, please try OEM grille first to see how it fits. I'd like to know what you find. A lot of people will automatically just say to go with OEM without actually knowing if the aftermarket part is any good. It's safe, but not always necessary.
I'm considering doing the retrofit and would be very interested to see where the issue lies. If it's just a poorly made grille, considering the whole kit is $350 shipped, I can excuse that. If it really is a problem with the bumper, then that is definitely a bigger deal. |
