So, back to a 320i for Canada - interesting. More and more, it looks as though 23i and 25i models across the BMW product range will be put on hiatus for an extended period. If this turns out to be the case it will be unfortunate since there is a pretty big gap between the ~180hp and ~240hp versions of the N20.

Maybe we'll still see a 123i or 125i in Geneva to go along with the 120i and 128i we know are coming. But I am beginning to wonder.

7.8 seconds 0-100km/h, automatic (-0.3s)
Really? As far as I know the E90 328i can accelerate to 100km/h in the mid 6 sec range.

It is a little bit better than that since those are included in the price compare to USA

- Sport line (+1700)
- Dakota Leather (+1450)
- Sport automatic tuning (+500)

So that's 3650$ value included... 46050 USD -> 47043.88 CAD.

We are getting there IMO.

As for myself I am pretty happy for the pricing especially that option package have been improved also. Look just for the premium pack +600 more expensive but it is include the navigation pack that was 2000$ option.

Anyway, I am really eager to see the price of the M Sport Line.

Later!

Finally leather is standard on the 328i. It was pretty ridiculous previously that pretty much every competitor to a 328i came with leather standard but you had to pay extra for it with BMW. Its something people pretty well expect in a $50,000+ car (I'm talking after prep + tax).

Now if only they would add that kind of value to the X3. Again, it is sad that they nickle and dime you for leather on an X3 35i with the high price tag it comes with.

Yeah that number they posted is wrong. 7.8 seconds is for the 320i

328 should be hitting 0-60 in about 5.9 seconds... the 335 around 5 flat.

The number isn't wrong, it's clear they are quoting that as the acceleration figure for the new 320i.

The part that's wrong, in my opinion, is suggesting that this is similar performance to the outgoing (E90) 328i.

It will feel like similar performance. If you've driven a Turbo 4 versus a NA inline six, you'll know that the feeling the turbo gives you is deceptive and can make it feel faster than it actually is.

I don't think what they are stating is too far off base.

None of the 3 series are made in the U.S. The reason why it's cheaper in States is because of the higher volume of sales. Florida sells more BMWs than all of Canada per year. However, I still think the price discrepancy is too much.

Actually, the South Carolina plant produces the X3, X5, X6, and the upcoming X4. The 3 series is produced in Munich and another plant in South Africa (I don't remember where exactly). I believe there is also a plant in China producing 3 series models for their market as well.

I actually drive a turbo four fairly regularly and find the seat-of-the-pants feel jibes pretty closely to what I would expect based on the quoted figures. It has lots of torque for its displacement, yes, but it nevertheless is (and feels) like a pretty slow car overall. Of course, it isn't supposed to be a fast car so I don't have any issue with it in that respect. And I realize an E90 328i isn't really a fast car either. But I know for a fact, from driving them on a number of occasions and from simply reading about experiences from owners here and elsewhere, that they are (and do feel, as well) much faster than a high 7 second 0-100 acceleration time.

Quote:

Relatively speaking, sure.

But for that matter, you could say that, relatively speaking an F30 328i is almost as fast as an F30 335i. Or, I could say an E92 M3 performs just about like an F10 M5. Or plenty of other loosy-goosy comparisons of cars that are within 10-25% of each other's performance.

For people who buy a 320i, it probably doesn't really matter in most cases anyway. But the way BMW described the car certainly stuck out to me as taking some very liberal artistic license. I am very confident that when the magazines get ahold of this car, they are not going to be suggesting it can keep pace with an E90 328i. Although I will say that I figure it can probably keep up with (or close to) the outgoing Canadian E90 323i, which in the end is all it really needs to do.

The disparity between the Canadian and US market (price wise) is ridiculous for BMW's, not to mention the overwhelming taxes that have to paid as well.

Being from Detroit, and a neighbor of Canada, I honestly feel sympathy for those that want to drive a new BMW, Mercedes, Audi, etc.

Probably their reasoning for offering a 320i in the first place.

I guess it rests with the fact that BMW has to hedge its bets against the US/Canadian dollar, and their future values compared against one another.

For you guys in Canada, is it still cheaper to buy in Canada, or could you import from the US, pay taxes and duty, and still save $$$ ???? Just curious....

Can you even do that?

I will test to see if this is true once I get a hold of a new 320i. For the time being I will just have to go with what that memo says.

You certainly can, but BMW really doesn't like doing it. To the tune of charging for a cluster swap and $500 to pull the recall letter. Audi and Mercedes provide coding to do the MPH > KPH and the recall letters are free.

I do understand we are getting more included for the price, but a two year old M3 is the same price...
