Decision Time: Apex or Forgestar?
I have a Mineral Grey 2016 340 Xi. I have been doing some research on what wheels I would like to replace the OEM ones with this summer. I have narrowed my choice done two between APEX and Forgestar. I think they are comparable in terms of build quality and price point. If I am missing any other companies in this space, I would be open to knowing what else I should look at.
As for Apex, I am leaning towards the 18" SM-10 with a square setup running 8.5" with a +35 offset. I will run a 5mm spacer in the back end to flush it up. This would give me a slightly bigger sidewall, a more cost effective setup and better drivability in terms of less under steer. Regarding Forgestar, I have two options I like. The CF-10 and the F14. The CF-10 is comparable in terms of looks to the Apex SM-10. Unfortunately, the CF-10 only comes in 19". I could still do a square setup. The F14's are available in 18". With the 19" options from Forgestar I can get into more of a semi-concave look. I know Apex is considering a 19" SM-10 for this summer which may also have a more concave look to it potentially. I am looking for any input that will help me decide which way to go on my car? Thanks,

what size tires are you planning on?
between the two, i'd go SM-10 on 255/40/18 square. here is a pic of kreuz's F32 with 18x8.5 +35 on 245/40/18 square. i don't feel like you'd need rear spacers. you could also consider the SM-10 in 18x9 +30 on 255 square, however there's a possibility the outer shoulder of the front tire may rub the inner fenderwell at full lock depending on the tire brand. if you do go 19's there are a lot more wheel choices however wheel and tire costs are higher, obviously. I am still reading about the preferred tire size on the SM-10's. I do see allot more people going with 245/40/18. The rear spacers will be looked at after I get the wheels on as I agree with you in that they may not be needed based on how things sit after I put them on and change up the suspension. My hesitation with the 19" size is the following: Handling Performance Added Costs Greater likelihood of road damage with reduced sidewalls

I am hopping in on the group buy for the SM-10's, great looking wheels just a smidge lighter than the ARC-8. Here's a link to whoever has interest.

I wish i had a better picture.
I'm currently running Apex ARC-8. 19inch 9in wide 255 square set up lowered on hr sport springs. I currently have no issues rubbing. APEX makes very strong, light weight and affordable wheels for BMW only. I think each wheel weighed around 20lb which is super light compared to other brands. I believe they use flow form tech. apex usually has 19's on clearance so you should always watch their site for good deals. I got a set for $900 whereas retail is usually 1200+ I've hit alot of potholes and the wheels have kept their integrity and have had no damage so far... There a ton of bmw drivers using apex and they can all say the same about these wheels. strong wheels with huge selection of sizes and designs at good price point.

Had the same dilemma. Ended up going with Apex cause they were running a sale and I couldn't wait weeks to months to get the Forgestars made and shipped to me haha

I had a chance to see the 305 Forged wheels in person while at Mod Bargains last month and thought they looked fantastic!! Looked better imo then the VMR and Forgestar and even some of the HRE wheeels they had in showroom.
I'm leaning towards the 305 Forged ft101's for my next wheel. These would look great on your color...although, I think the brighter silver ones look better on MG cars. I just switched form 18" 441's to 19" 403's and would highly recommend the 19" 19" wheels are the sweet spot for these cars imho, especially if lowered. Hankook V12 evo2 tires are the best bang for your buck at less then $160 per tire in the 225/40/19 - 255/35/19 set up right now at Discount Tire. Last edited by SoCal_NSX; 06-03-2018 at 10:08 PM.. |

I swear by Apex slowly installing them on all the cars dad and I own once things are due for tires. My Dinan guru Matt at Thompson runs them on his M3 - that's all I needed to hear.

Just google the wheels you want to see then save a good image then you can upload them to the app and see how they look on your car. It's a great tool and it's free!!! It takes some playing around with to get used to it, but it's cool as hell... Here is an example, I wanted to see what the VMR 804's look like on my car...5 minutes late I had my answer |

Tbh I love forgestar f14s. But they must be super deep concave all around in my opinion lol
My set is finally finished! I rushed construction for an extra cost because I couldn't wait. |
