acceleratoin gone wrong? misfires... weird noises. please help!
Hi everyone,
I have a JB4 Stg 2 on a N26 2014 BMW 428i XDrive and when I pedaled hard from 0 on Sport and M/S Mode (I didn't shift / so it was on S1 to begin with) it went to redline on 1st gear, then it went POP POP POP POP then shutdown along with "DRIVETRAIN MALFUNCTION" light coming on... I let go of the accelerator pedal and pulled over and turned off the car, then restarted and it flashed for a second then it was gone. I turned it off again waited for a few sec, then everything seems normal. I drove home fine. I didn't obviously try to do whatever I did again... When I checked the jb4 app i got 140010 misfires, more cylinders: Recognized 140210 misfires, cylinder 2: Recognized 140001 misfires, more cylinders: injection is switched off 140201 misfires, cylinder 2: injection is switched off 140310 misfries, cylinder 3: Recognized 140301 misfires, cylinder 3: injection is switched off Here are some revs from the engine when parked: I am FBO with ER Catted downpipe. 92 (not 93) octane gas. Did I just screw up my car?? Last edited by lonecitizenfour; 05-27-2018 at 01:39 PM.. |

well I don't think it's just a code issue. I stated in the original thread that on redline at 1st gear, it made some popping noises (i'm not sure if it's because of my exhaust, because it makes those fart noises when it shifts) then the drive malfunction came on.
The car has 32k miles and I don't think the coil packs are bad... I'll try putting new spark plugs though. I have SILZKBR8E8S that I will gap to 0.020 |

If you not getting a low oil pressure warning and the filler cap does not have any milky white residue your engine should be fine. The popping sound could be from a misfire due to a faulty coil, injector or plug. Since cylinder 2 and 3 shows misfire codes switch coils between 1 and 4 and see if the errors follow. If they do change the coils they go regularly on these engines.

But nothing came up since restarting my car... So only thing that made my car go like that was high RPM at gear 1 I did switch out coils to the above sku gapped to 0.020 using the gapper tool and still no CEL. If it comes back... it might be the coil packs. It's only 32k miles!! I thought coil packs go up to 70-100 I drive like a grandma too. It was my first stop and floor. |
