USC stripped of 2004 BCS National Championship

Last year Reggie Bush also relinquished his Heisman Trophy over the same situation.
link

Southern California has been stripped of its 2004 football national title by the Bowl Championship Series, the latest consequences of N.C.A.A. violations that had already cost Reggie Bush his Heisman Trophy and kept the Trojans from being eligible for bowl games for the 2010 and 2011 seasons.
~
The violations surrounded improper benefits given to Bush during his Trojans career as well as those received by the basketball player O.J. Mayo. That the scandal stretched over two sports led the N.C.A.A. to cite the university for a lack of institutional control. That cost Mike Garrett his job as the university’s athletic director.

Everyone knew it was coming. No big surprise here. Still one of top 10 teams of all time imo.

Got to find a way to punish the players and coaches responsible, even after they leave. Sanctions 7 years later to kids that were in friggen middle school at the time.

Make it illegal or start paying them.

Can't wait to see how this affects OSU. Now USC or UMich fanboys...no need to , I agree that Tress cheated, lied and so on, but there should be something to protect the incoming players who have no affiliation.

USC is still the best 'Semi-Pro' team out there. I'm glad I graduated in '80. Same back then, they would give the players 50 tickets/game for their 'families' and tell them that the alumni would buy any unused tickets for $50 each.

These kids should be making a 20k a year stipend for all they do for their universities. I think their effort is worth at least a measly $10/hr.

What about a free college education (worth $40k+ a year at some of these schools) and the opportunity a big name program gives you of being in the national eye/increasing chances of playing in the NFL and making millions?

You can argue that a player at a big name Division 1 school has a better shot at making it to the NFL and getting a big time contract than a person at a lower level school. Before going to Auburn Cam Newton won a junior college national championship. If he had stayed at the JC level he wouldn't have been a blip on many NFL scouts radars. Auburn gave him the exposure and opportunity to win a national championship and get drafted #1 with millions in guaranteed money.

I'm not a USC fan, but it doesn't matter. All fans still consider USC the best team that year.

Every game was a like a highlight reel, especially with Reggie Bush in the backfield. Great stuff to watch. Definitely in the top 10 of all time in my book even (but not #1 - that belongs to the 2001 Miami Hurricanes, essentially a Pro Bowl team).

The organization over at Miami was smart. Instead of handing out money and jobs... they gave them all the pussy they could handle. (and a little money too)

Every top tier college athletic team (and the not so much) has stuff going on they would rather the NCAA not know about. It's all a matter of who gets caught. And there is no shortage of pussy in Coral Gables, almost on the level of the FSU campus area.
